Does anyone know of any other forks that will bolt straight into my 1999 900ssie? I have stripped and rebuilt mine in an attempt to fix my compression damping and they still don't work.
SSie forks are unique to that model, all other forks are shorter. You can fit monster or ST forks but the tops will have to go flush with the top yoke to get the ride height. You could possibly fit carby SS clip ons below the top yoke but might have clearance issues around the fairing. Lucazade on here had some SSie fork legs for sale on here last week.
Instead of buying another set of forks which may or may not be ok why not send them off to a suspension specialist to be overhauled and/or revalved after which you know they will fit back in and work probably better than before. I have never used any of the companies out there that carry out this type of work so cannot make any personal recommendation but plenty of people on here have done and I'm sure if you ask you'll get some good feedback. Also I would guess that the cost will not be be too different to a s/h pair of forks but the result will probably be much better.
This months (June(GSXR+ Pani on cover) issue of Performance Bikes mag has a stripdown and revalve article on Showa forks. Should be in newsagents early next week..
