Quick Shift Issues

  1. Hi all, I’m after a bit of advice. I have just purchased a 899, and when changing gear my foot was having to travel too much to go up the gears, so a friend of mine adjusted the gear shifter. I’ve just been out on it, and the digital gear selector on the screen kept saying I was in 1st gear regardless of what gear I was in, then going down the road, it would flash up as in neutral, then would say the correct gear, then flash neutral again, but then after a few minutes, the bike has got confused and the engine management light has come on, Quick shifter stopped working, and the power has dropped. How can I put this right? Has the adjustment been made too much and is interfering with something to do with the gear selection switch?
I’ve also been told it will have to go in to have the light turned off?

    Any help much appreciated

  2. Some mate lol, adjusted to low and your boot was probably putting constant pressure on the shifter and gone into meltdown is the best case , gear position sensor being the worse case but a unlikely coincidence.

  3. costly fix?

  4. I had a gear position sensor go on my bike and it ran like a bag of nails as the fueling was all over the place, if yours runs fine then I would say it’s ok, not sure if you can actually damage a shifter by applying constant pressure, I would adjust linkage again and see how that goes.

  5. But will I be able to tell if it’s sorted, as once it’s back in the right position, the engine will still have the light on, and I’ve been told once it’s on, a garage has to turn it off?

  6. @nelly will give you the correct answer for that one, I have had warning lights on my 899 and 1299 that have gone out without a trip to the dealer but the error code is usually stored in the ecu, cannot see how you have done any damage amounting to major cost, the fixings used to adjust the shifter a pretty tight from the factory and as long as your mate did not damage the shifter while adjusting I cannot see it being a expensive fix.

  7. Brilliant, thanks for your help. I’m still under the 1 month warranty from the place I purchased from, so do you think it would be worth knocking on their door?
