1200 DVT Changing Headlight Bulbs ....ho-hum

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by HootOwl, Jan 26, 2020.

  1. I bought 4 Osram nightbreaker laser headlight bulbs, to increase visibility on my Multi.
What a pig of a job it was to fit 'em
(Technical difficulty is only around a 3, but the awkward factor is a 9.5 unless you have child's hands (alas I have shovel hands).
A long thin screwdriver is needed to get the bulb connector off the bulb and then it's feel and twist to get the bulb itself out, with no hope of actually seeing what you are doing. It's even fiddlier getting it all back together and the connector back on.
I s'pose I could have pulled the entire nose off, but no way should that be necessary to swap a bulb, I think I would still have to connect the leads up back in place anyway, cos there is very little free play in the wires.
I'd hate to have to try and do this job at the roadside cos it's not doable.
As it is - I just fitted the dip beams and left the high beams as they were...they are even harder to get to. I have no skin left on my knuckles. Grrr
Why does it need to be so awkward ? :worried: The dip beams look good now at least

  2. Reminds me of trying to change one in my 225 megane ...in the end i took it to my local garage who changed it in less than 3 minutes, some of these items are deliberately designed so they cause enough frustration for you so you let a dealer do it, even replacing light bulbs....

  3. I can change 4 light bulbs on my Multistrada in less time than I can change one on my Versys X-300. There are far worse bikes than the Multi regarding bulb changes...
Yes, they are a bit awkward to reach but at least its feasible if you are stranded at the roadside during the night (assuming you have your allen keys with you). The dipped beam is much easier because the connectors have much more free play and they are not in a very awkward position.
