New Boots... Recommendations?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Monsterped, Jan 26, 2020.

  1. hi all

I’m contemplating replacing my current boots, Sidi Vertigo 2’s, as they are bloody uncomfortable and send my toes to sleep after about an hour on the bike.

I’m leaning towards some Dainese Axial D1 “In” boots, any comments or thoughts? Should work with my Dainese leathers and also with jeans if needs be.

    Any other suggestions?

    Ta!

  2. Worth a look at the Daytona range, excellent quality. Track use or road, many options.

  3. I have the Axial in boots, in fact I have 2 pairs, I love them and like you say they work with my leathers too :upyeah::upyeah:

  4. My Supertech Rs are like slippers, I love them. Had a pair of Sidi Vertigo with the ratchet things and I swear they’re the worst things I’ve ever put on my feet. They killed me and squeaked constantly

  5. I've had my Sidi Couriers for years and love them.

  6. My Sidi Street Burners (wanker name) are the short ankle boots and they are great. Probably terrible for touring in rainy conditions, but riding and walking about they are super comfortable, with a fair amount of protection.

  7. Daytona or Altberg, Altberg will even modify off the peg boots or will make to measure. Can’t tell you price on made to measure but off the peg are very reasonable.

  8. I had sidi shoes when I raced pedal cycles as they use a narrow last and thus (in my mind) aided aerodynamics. Their bike boots kill my feet.

Currently I've a pair of Daytona pro gore tex which are a bit to wide but all day comfortable and a good touring boot.

Also have TCX SP Master gore-tex. These hug my feet more but still comfy all day. One thing I don't like is the top of the boot has no cushioning. This isn't a problem over leathers but under textiles i have to ensure the velcro isn't rubbing against my leg.

I had a pair of normal Altberg boots years ago and they were really well made.

I had to try loads before I got the TCX just to get a decent fit.

  9. I would have a closer look at the Daytona range, which to me offer unrivalled quality, comfort, fit and reliability.
A bit on the expensive side, but they are definitely worth every penny or should I say £......:upyeah:

  10. Daytona Evo Sports GTX (Goretex version), expensive but worth every single penny. Crashed in them twice (track and road, don't ask!) and they are still going strong but above everything else no injury to feet, ankles etc.

Will probably get the outers repaired at some point but its cosmetic to be honest.

Well worth looking at the range:upyeah:

PS. All day comfort as well.

  11. Daytonas, not much of a looker in that they don’t have any go faster stripes on them, but very practical and waterproof.

  12. Sorry for the obvious answer but take your leathers (and riding jeans) to a big store and try loads on.
I personally wear Alpinestars and RST but have found that even these differ in fit boot to boot. No substitute for trying them all on. It’s worth the time.

  13. Daytona

I’ve recently moved to Altberg and the Daytona’s are a better riding boot. Comfy, warm and waterproof. They last well too.

  14. I have some Supertech Rs for summer and some Dainese Torque D1 out Goretex for touring and when the weather isn't predictable. Like the Dainese Goretex boots I had before, lasted 12 years and were still waterproof, they're very comfy. The Supertechs arguably offer better protection but are nowhere as comfortable, or as practical, worn day after day when away on tour.

  15. Used to like sidi's but the last pair I bought, they seemed to have changed and were now incredibly narrow?

  16. Tried most , and Daytona get my vote - proper quality boots

  17. A lot depends on budget and usage too... Daytona get nothing but great reviews but do cost a fair whack, but are apparently super comfy as well as protective... I've got axial pro that I rate highly but they are quite stuff even when broken in so probably not the best for touring or walking about too much but feel very protective on track... supertech r are very comfy for a full on sports boot and ive toured on them no probs..... Best bet is defo to try them all on.. Everyone has different feet after all :upyeah:

  18. Daytona. They really are miles better than anything else.

supertech R’s are comfy but made out of spit and tissue.

gaerne make some good and very reasonable boots

  19. ive been using the Dainese Axial In boots since 2002 ish, i think now i their 4th version?
i have no issue with the boots, but my DP rearset peg has damaged the rear zip and i have sent the boot for repair. crashed in, and spent all day in, seem to fit my Nato standard size 9s fine. i would buy another set when the fully vented version is available.
used to have Alpinestar Gp techs but Dainese were better fit and less plastic

  20. Try RST, nothing flashy but comfortable , good value and I think their quality has really improved over the last 2 or 3 years and that applies to all their stuff not just boots.
