1200 Touratech Crash Bars Removal Guide

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Bigade, Jan 27, 2020.

  1. Evening all.

Selling bike and need to remove these crash bars. Can't find a fitting guide (dealer fitted them when bike was new)
    Can anyone help?

    Thanks
    Ade

  2. Is this an Enduro or a normal multistrada DVT ?

There is a post on here from @GunZenBomZ showing his bike with the tank etc off when his were being fitted.
It is apparently quite a time consuming job.

I've just bought a set for my Enduro, so if they turn up with instructions I can scan it for you if that helps.

  3. Thanks John. It's a 1200s dvt.
I think the dealer said they were a time consuming job to fit.

  4. That's because they were billing you for their time... ;)

Before you remove them, do you have the original engine mount bolt to replace the Touratech bolt with? They're different and if you're selling the bars the buyer will want all the bits.

Anyhow... there're two bolts in the cross-bar, self evident. You need to remove the radiator fairings (2 torx T25 - I think from memory) and the mounting panels underneath (4 x allen key bolts, three smaller and one larger), then you can slacken the big allen key bolts on the upper brackets and remove the brackets from the radiator mountings, and then finally remove the big allen key bolts from the engine mount bolt and the 15mm nuts off that bolt. Pull the bars off and replace the original engine mount bolt (noting to get the allen head on the same side - left from memory - as the other engine mount bolt). Replace radiator fairing mounting panels and fairings and job's a good un.

Half an hour if you take your time.

  5. That's great info, thanks.
I've found the mounting brackets and bar

  6. Instructions would suggest taking the side panels off first, as this is a reversal of fitting them (I've just put some on). But I'd suggest undoing the main bolts first, taking the bars off, then taking the side panels off to access the top mount/radiator mount point to remove the mount.

Unfortunately I've binned the instructions else I'd give you the engine bar torque setting, and yes, allen key was on the left.
