Will A 2016 Hypermotard 939 Sp Engine Fit A 2017 Hypermotard 939 (standard)?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Tim S, Feb 16, 2020.

  1. Unfortunately, just after I bought my 2017 Hypermotard 939, the bike had a massive engine failure the very next day.

I've managed to source 2016 Hypermotard 939 SP engine but I really need to make sure there won't be any issues fitting this engine into my bike as I'll be importing it from the USA to Thailand.

From what I've read online, besides a few subtle differences, the engines are pretty much the same.

Are there any differences/pitfalls I need to take into consideration before purchasing the engine?

Any help would be much appreciated.

  2. I think they probably identical although some of the ancillaries may differ. Download the parts lists for both from ducati.com and compare them.
A quick look at online parts list here shows that the complete crankcases and cylinder head assemblies have the same part numbers. Their diagrams for the 2106 model doesn't show the piston and barrel assemblies so can't be sure they are the same but since you are changing the complete engine it would make no difference if they weren't.
