Ducati Diagnostics Melco Diag Etc

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Gerr, Feb 20, 2020.

  1. Hi all

just wondering .... has anyone cracked the problem where they can't reset oil services on 2014 and onwards Multistrada .. using DIY diag software such as JP diag / Melco Diag. I think its because the ECU type was changed to Mitsubishi.

I have been on the Melco diag site but its not really clear.

    Thank You

  2. I have looked and asked and the only unit I can find that works for sure is the Texa unit, but that costs £thousands. Texa write Ducati software.

No-one has sussed the ECU's principally fitted to 2015 bikes and onwards that I can find, and to make matters worse, many Ducati dealers see their arse if you ask them to reset a service light too and will not do it. Depending who you ask - they can claim its because they haven't done the work and cant be sure its been done right, or someone is trying to trick the system, or Ducati checks up on them and they cannot just reset a light even for a payment, or Scorpio is in alignment with Mars whatever...I will leave the actuality of that situation open to debate.

I agree, no-one should be compelled to have any vehicle main dealer serviced only, just to get rid of service lights - they are meant as a reminder to the user, not a big stick for dealer use only. There should be a facility for the owner to reset them.

There are plenty of ways to prove bikes/cars have been serviced other than a warning on the dash being extinguished. BUT where there is money to be made and people are tied to a specific fix, there are people that want to make sure they get their share.

  3. Hi ...

Yes I saw your thread a couple of pages back now I had another look .....sorry all !

I guess we'll have to put up with the light when the time comes then. I do my own oil changes ..... belts etc and am a little fed up about not being able to reset the warning after a simple service.

I have to be honest I'm going off all this shite now ..... when I changed the belts it was shocking how much had to be done to get to the belts to replace them. Looking at the work reqd to change the plugs too ! I might put the S2R back on the road :D

  4. Don't know what software they have but the people I got my Enduro from just off the A64 near York are able to reset the service light. They're not Ducati franchise so it's not only Ducati dealers that can do it.

  5. Its basically anyone with a Texa that can do it. I have a good mate with an independant shop in Barnsley that can do it (I think, not seen him to talk with for a while, but I am 99% sure he has the Texa TXT).

I just had my Desmo service done at the place that supplied me the bike in January, I am still expecting the light to come on in the near future. They are actually an MV dealer but may have the same machine. I will get one or the other to sort it.

I still maintain that's not really the point though. As owners, we should be able to get nag lights turned off without needing a service at a Ducati dealer.

Big service - cool I will take it in, but not for an oil service. That would be crazy

  6. Yes ... I'll get the Desmo check / shims done at a specialist. I've done valve checking and opener adjustment on the 2V bikes but nothing more involved than that. For some folk owning a motorbike ....the care and maintenance is a big part of the whole experience ..so it's not only about the money. My fault entirely ... wrong bike .. I don't like the feeling of the bike owning me .... as an old git I spend too much time fretting about stuff that probably won't happen

  7. Just out of curiosity what would you pay to have the light re-set at your convenience?

  8. 2015 onwards, DVT bikes are running Bosch ecu. They are a bitch to crack open. The factory diag, now offers an option to reset without logging the service on the Ducati database. That’s been the stumbling block for dealers. Like it or not, I personally wouldn’t log a service that I hadn’t done. It can be done now though. Dealer chooses what to charge though.

  9. £30 I guess ...

  10. Hi Nelly ..... I was thinking the connection to Ducati via the diagnostic kit was the issue ... it's fair that the services are recorded at Ducati .... my service book tells the story and it will be visible to a potential buyer that I have not had all services done at a Ducati Dealership. It's then down to the buyer if he's comfortable with the service record. And I also accept that there is a potential for the value of my bike to be affected.

  11. Seems fair enough to me ...

  12. I just see it as getting the service light cleared ...and would not want a dealer to appear to have serviced a bike if he had not ...not fair on the dealer or any future owner .. clearing the service light does not and should not imply that the service has been carried out ...Ducatis own records or the owners own paperwork including the service book do that job ....

  13. So i can confirm that melcodiag cannot reset the service indicator. You can read error codes, reset error codes (which is a big help if fault finding) so still worth the effort of getting the two cables required etc.
