A mystery tool , which came with the original ST4 toolkit , and I have never found a use for it . The weird thing is that the toolkit was stolen in a bungled theft attempt and now this tool is all that's left ! And that's only because I'd taken it out , as useless extra weight .... It has baffled me ever since I got the bike .... .... can anybody clue me in ?
The right hand end plugs into the C spanner for the shock adjuster I think - the left hand end is for something else
Think you may find that the 12 point ring spanner will fit the clamp bolts on the sw/arm which need to be loosened to turn the eccentric hub when adjusting the chain. Always used a socket on a bar or ratchet and tightened with a torque wrench myself so cannot be certain.
Could the spanner section be for the through bolt on the wheel which has a standard 6 sided nut on one side, and the rest of the bolt that seems to take that spanner on the inside
Not so far as I know but that item fits in the C spanner for turning the eccentric when adjusting the chain on SSSA models (748/9**) and the 12 point ring fits the clamp bolts - I just checked on one of my 748s.
ST4 has hex nuts both sides (like the 2nd pic), not sure I'd want to undo them with that piece of cheese
Could this also be a chain adjustment gauge? Line up the hole with a rivet and the shoulders with the bottom of the swingarm for correct adjustment?
Thanks for the replies folks I'm thinking that it never belonged in the ST4 tool-kit in the first place For use on bikes with single-sided swing-arm ? it seems the most likely
sorry I forgot to add that bit, those pictures are from a current ebay sale ducati st4s 2005 titled 2005 Ducati ST4S * Last Generation * the left hand side of the wheel axle has the 12 star configeration on the inside of the wheel axle that matches the tool on the first post
