This cant be good

  1. Its not properly vulcanised. Defo looks like a batch fault and get yourself a replacement FOC. I'd imagine they'll want that one for some investigation. A good spot from you cos it could have had you spat off. Not good... I've heard of front tyres delaminating under hard braking and taking out the front brake hose. Yikes, doesn't bear thing about.
    I'd have thought 31psi is a tad high for track work but defo not the sole cause of the problem here. Interesting thread and thanks for sharing. Good luck.

  2. Oh, and check the date of manufacture. 4+ years can give a tyre marzipan type characteristics.

  3. How did you get on at the tyre dealers today Matt ? I remember in the 1980's having a Pirelli Phantom having those delamination lines very close together (about 5mm apart), a single compound tyre though. It was a manufacturing fault and was replaced FOC.

  4. Ive run them a little lower at previous events but didn't like the way the tyre was sliding around when cold

    I rocked up after work and they were very good about it. They ordered another tyre as they didnt have one in stock and replaced mine with a part worn Bridgestone. It should only be on there a few days and for the riding I have planned, it wont make much difference.
    I sent an email to Performance Bikes about it and got a very positive response back too. Hopefully its just as isolated case, if not, who know what could be happening

  6. I was able to get a second look at the tyre as it hadnt been sent back to the supplier due to the bank holiday. It was made in Germany during the 46th week of 2012, so middle of November basically. Ive got the replacement on now, but I'm worried that the same thing is going to happen again. The plan is to get to Brands again before the May 21st, when Im due at Silverstone, do a few sessions in the afternoon and check out the tyre

  7. Matt,

    I met someone yesterday who was present when your tyre went wrong. We had a good old chat about it.

    You're famous!

  8. Really?:tongue::tongue:

    Was it the really nice chap with the track 848?

  9. Yes, blonde hair too.

    He bought some wheels from MADASL while I was there

  12. 31psi doesnt seem to soft..but is it too extreme for that tyre in those circumstances and its delaminating amongst other things...due to heat
