Does anyone know where I can source one of these new chains in the UK? The ERV3 is readily available but I can’t see a uk supplier coming up when I search. The below from the DID website: “The 520ERV7 is an upgrade that will replace the 520ERV3. Quite a bit of a jump from 3-7, but that is a story for another time. It has been over a decade since the 520ERV3 was introduced, so the 520ERV7 will see significant upgrades, including stronger inner plates, resulting in a 3% higher tensile strength, and a greater chain life, which is increased by 13% due to material upgrades with our patented X-Ring seal. The ERV7 will be slightly heavier than the ERV3 at 3.41 lbs per 100 links.”
If you want a chain that lasts much longer and needs far less adjustments than DID then try Afam, still going strong after nearly 20000 miles and only adjusted 4 times.
A quick search of the net seems to point to them as the right balance of quality and price. It’s a race chain I’m after. Light weight and good power transfer characteristics are a priority over overall longevity as the bike will be track only.
Nothing that interesting! Just a dedicated track 959 - the current chain is covered in rust as it was neglected due to the bike being purchased at auction after the finance company repossessed it from the previous owner. As I need a new one I figured I may as well get one suited to the intended use of the bike. Just cut off the old chain and stripped and cleaned everything so need to get one ordered.
B&C express distribute DID. Afam or Tsubaki will serve you just as well tbh and probably save you a few quid. Just an aside....I’d swap out that front sprocket for a new one. There’s wear on that and it screw a new chain.
Thanks Eagle eye @nelly I was debating whether I needed a new one! I just looked up B&C Express - they are 12 miles away from me and I had no idea!
Each to his own, but I would not say a heavier chain with longer road life and great water/ road muck protection was the prime choice for a track bike.
Now you can see why I got a grade U in my maths CSE exam!! Duly noted and edited to read twenty thousand miles lol. IIRC you don’t need the best longevity at all for a racing chain as they are often changed every few races anyway. If that’s the case then you don’t need a gold plated X ring chain encrusted with diamonds, anything half decent will do the job.
