Another St4s Immoblizer Issue

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by mgrover, Dec 27, 2019.

  1. nah, they picked up up at 10ish today. am sure ill hear back soon.

If it was any kind of valve/timing problem i assume it can't be too bad otherwise the engine wouldnt keep firing and one pipe would be stone cold.

and if it is a dead cylinder because of valve/timing i get to learn how to strip it and rebuild it. theres actually a workshop that skims heads down the road from me :D

  2. Did you reflash the ECU to correct the TPS reset that you tried with the software?
Were you trying to start it with the rear cylinder linkage disconnected?

  3. so i have good news. its the crank position sensor. its the new crank position sensor but once they removed shim it fired up fine.

there just going to reset the tps and whatever else needs doing because its unfortunately gone above my head

  4. i did reflash the ecu and that started to make things look sane again. but when I set it to 423mv, the software says its 3.3 degrees instead of 2.6

  5. It would appear there's a message to us all in this thread, well actually 2 messages; See post #7 point 2,

    1. Don't follow the advice of strangers on the internet
    2. Don't start messing about with things without all the proper tools and diagnostic equipment

  7. yeah it died shortly after unfortunately which is why i replaced it.

  8. We've all been there, done it and had it happen to us I'm sure.

Thankfully, in my most recent case it was just a seized front sprocket:confused:

  9. ah damn, ive just got a 250quid bill for the car as well, failed its mot :(

  10. 200quid for the ducati. shes running perfectly though. Weird thing is now the side stand has to be up for it to start.

i swear it used to have a bypass, like a physical one.

either way am just pleased its running again.

next jobs are the digital dash, its very faded but sometimes its fine? so maybe water ingress somewhere and the rpm indicator has always been crazy.

thanks for all the help here :D if i ever come across any of you in a bikers cafe or a pub i owe ya a coffee/tea/beer

  11. Link out the sidestand switch at the yellow relay under the LH fairing panel - job's a good un

  12. that went over my head :p what do ya mean?

  13. If you locate the yellow relay that operates on the sidestand under the LH fairing remove it and put a solid wire across 2 of the connections (can't remember which ones but trial and error will find it - there are 4 connections) this will then disable the sidestand switch and relay so nothing can go wrong (except riding off with sidestand down ) I have found the relays get 'tired' and become faulty in time so either replace it or link it out to solve

  14. ah fair enough, that makes more sense :p at the moment i don't think its "damaged", but the super seal for the side stand is soaked in water inside so i feel like thats got something to do with it. might get a dryer on it.

  15. Water would more likely short it out so it wasn't operable at all - maybe filled with WD40 from dealer to get it to work? If it goes belly up just link out at the relay and all will be good :upyeah:

  16. so, took her a good enough run today. two issues, I get random split seconds of power just disappearing even when on the throttle, 3-4k id say. one time it also just stalled while on the throttle. it feels like the CPS is too far, like its enough to idle but randomly freaks out? maybe I just order the ducati branded one for £77 and be done with it? i might reinstall the old one I had and see if that goes back to working given everything else is now working

and no neutral light, or it sometimes comes and flickers, really weird.

the neutral light feels connected to the cps somehow but i dont know enough about these bikes so can't say.

  17. CPS?
    Crank position sensor?

  18. Yeahh
