Discussion in 'Wanted' started by paul1098, Mar 22, 2020.

  1. Looking to buy a 749R. 2004 Mk1.
    Preferably as original as possible.

No frills, trick bits and especially no engine mods.
    Gotta be Red

  2. That's a big ask...
I've got a spare engine, standard. .. I might sell.
You won't like my Biggelaar special 749r..

  5. Think it probably is, I don't mind minor mods where I can get original parts easily but nothing more than that.
I doo like your Biggelaar special but not to buy in this instance.

Had a look on eBay but they don't appeal. Saw comments on the cheap private one about single light conversion. Don't like paying dealer prices unless I have to as I'd prefer to buy from someone that has been heavily into the bike.

I've been told that before on other Duke models & I'm sure they are much rarer but it's a Red thing with me. I'll be admitting to following the herd next!!

  8. Good shout .. will whatsapp him ....

  9. Do you have a budget in mind ?

  10. Not thought of a max budget although not dealer prices

  11. What would be a typical dealer price?

  12. Seems to depend on dealer £12-£14k at moment but don't know how realistic those prices are.

  13. The one in Sheffield with 3000 miles looks good - it's £13.5k but they sell a lot on commission - have you talked to them about a deal?
In the current climate depending on the sellers situation you might a bargain if it's on commission.

  14. Even at non dealer you are looking at a minimum of 11k and that won't tick all the boxes you have, will be astonished if you get one under 5 figures thats worth having, very narrow band of owners and most will have other bikes to sell before they let an R go cheap ....

Did @749er get in touch ?

  15. Seeing those prices makes me wish I bought the one for sale at the dealer 1,5 year ago for €7.5K damn....

  16. No one is going to sell any collectable bike for anything other than a really good price unless they are desperate. There are so few about and so few for sale I don’t believe there is such a thing as a dealer price and a private sale price for low mileage bikes, with FDSH And the correct bits on it. Should anyone want to offer enough to tempt mine away from me they can call Snells and go through every line of its service history. It’s much more reassuring than a three month warranty.

every time I ride it, it makes me smile. Cracking bike.

  17. I have ridden this bike. It is a peach. Not sure I know anyone that looks after his bikes better than Derek.

  18. I'd noticed that one and was going to ring him until all this virus stuff kicked off so put it on hold for now.
