What's peoples views? The clutch pushrod has oil outside of the o-rings, mostly migrating back towards the clutch slave cylinder. Are the o-rings replaceable ? TIA
Yes, the o-rings are replaceable. There is also a very small oil seal in the end of the gearbox input shaft at the clutch end.
O rings are replaceable- carefully remove them with a spiky hook thing and then get some from Halfords or similar. Are you sure it is oil? Could it be hydraulic fluid coming from the slave cylinder?
Thanks fellas. Do the O-rings need to be viton? Is that accessible from behind the clutch salve cylinder? Definitely oil thanks Ricky, the clutch fluid hasn't dropped at all since the last service 12 months ago, but it has gone very very dark, perhaps oil contamination
Paul, the clutch fluid on all 748/916s goes dark after just a few hundred miles nothing to worry about unless it starts turning metallic grey which is an indication of a turning push rod and imminent clutch slave failure.
You can use normal O-rings, well at least I've done this on both my Monster and 900ss. I tend to buy an O-ring multipack for less less than £10 from Toolstation or Screwfix etc., it's far cheaper than going and getting a couple of the things from Ducati and it'll last you a lifetime! Be very careful installing them and 'roll' them gently onto the shaft with a little grease or oil. it's easy to nick or split them otherwise, especially when trying to install the one furthest from the end as it will inevitably fall into the first groove and you'll have to hook it out. In the multipacks there are usually a couple of sizes/thicknesses that look very similar, you may have to experiment if you still get a leak after replacing them.
