Biketrac Issues

  1. So I’ve now had the right side off and checked the switchgear, and re-seated all the small connectors, and taken the right hand switchgear apart and checked it and all looks fine. I can’t find the biketrac

  2. Its good news that you cannot find the tracker as normal locations are to easy to access, obviously if they have hidden it well it means removal of more parts, you would like to think they have picked up the relevant power supplies at the fuse board rather than splicing a wire.

  3. yeah you would think so, I may take the seat off tomorrow and see if it’s in the tail, otherwise it could be in the headlight, I was tempted to take the nose off and check the connector on the dash but need to take both side fairings off for that.

  4. Have you found and checked the connection to the IMU? On a 1299 its under the seat. Don’t know where it is on your bike.

  5. 99% sure it’s under the seat because it has to sit flat I believe

  6. I think its the bbs unit under the seat, imu is at the headstock

  7. I reckon under the head fairing is a good shout for the BikeTrac device, looks like there is a but if space in there.

In this picture is the main ground cable, it looks like it's under and behind the batter. It might be worth just unbolting it and checking the connection is free from rubbish/paint/corrosion and it tight etc.

  8. Just thinking out loud, you could try wetting small parts of the bike and seeing if the problem manifests itself again. At least that might help you track it down to an area of the bike.

  9. that’s exactly the plan for tomorrow I think mate :)

  10. Yes, I meant the unit under the seat. Some 1299 owners have reported electrical gremlins when moisture has got in to the connector, after enthusiastic washing.

  11. I have now managed to track down a wiring diagram for a 1299 and an 899. If they still work the same it looks like the switchgear connects to the dashboard and then the dashboard connects to the actual indicators.

So perhaps the issue is going to be in the wiring behind the top fairing above the headlights. If you DM me your email address I'll email the diagrams I have over to you.

  12. amazing thanks mate :)

  13. I may have commented in another thread that’s connected to your problem? The flashing indicators is an built in telltale that there is a problem with the CanBus. Either a control unit is off line or a problem is present in the wiring and or signals along the CanBus.
My guess is this is the issue, not a specific issue with your indicators.
The issue relative to the 1199 mentioned above, whilst in good intentions, was a known hardware problem with the early Panigale and references the technical Solution the factory applied to solve it. I don’t believe it’s related to your problem.
If the problem occurs when the bike is wet, I’d suggest you’re getting water in an ecu connection. There are no intermediate connections in the loom relating to can bus. CanBus only connects at ecu terminals and at two terminals on the diag socket (which has now changed design due to Euro5 regs)
I have seen on a couple of occasions ecu connectors with ill fitted seals. These have allowed water past and on to the terminals. Worth a check around those that you can get to.

  14. I’ve found the bike tracker, I won’t go into detail but this is how it’s been spliced into the loom, it’s not in the actual main lume but into an accessory loom, the wiring is pretty mucky for a brand new bike. The last thing I’m going to do though is start mucking about rewiring stuff when it’s in warranty but hopefully the dealer can do it.

  15. How have they spliced it into the loom? As in what type of connections have they made? Can you share a close up picture of it?

  16. ive emailed you mate, as I can’t show my pictures without giving away where it’s located, which most will probably know but don’t wanna put others at risk

  17. I just wanted to update the thread to give it some closure. I took the bike to MotoRapido for the first service and at the same time they investigated the BikeTrac issue. I had the feeling they could tell what the issue was likely to be, I had a feeling and thanks to some really kind people in this thread I was hopeful they would find it and fix it, and they did.

The installing dealer had caught the soldering Iron on the earth wire for the CAN system and burnt through the shielding, instead of fixing it they just wrapped some tape around it. Needless to say that as soon as it got water in there it shorted the wiring loom.

MR have now re-soldered it, insulated each wire with heat shrink and then the collection of wires have been wrapped and they have cleaned the pins on the connector as well. £120 it cost me to get it fixed, it's not covered in Warranty as it was a mistake by the installing dealer. I'm taking this up separately

  18. Jaybus christmus that is sloppy work, name & shame if they don't cover the fixing charge.
