1200 Givi Trekker Outbacks On A Multi 1200 '17?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Keti, Mar 31, 2020.

  1. So... I have a pair of Givi Trekker Outback hard side cases. I bought them for my S1000XR that was unceremoniously nicked. Absolutely love the cases because they're so practical and easy to get stuff in and out of, so I'm thinking of using them on my multistrada 1200 S (2017).

Ignoring stylistic considerations (I know... Not exactly ducati styling having two great big boxes strapped to a beautiful looking machine), has anyone else used these cases with a multi? If so, any issues? Eg high speed drag or weave or anything like that?

  2. Oh, thanks for that Shoboshi. Spot on! They actually look pretty awesome and doesn't sound like there are any major downsides. That'll also teach me to search the forums before posting...

I've got the 37 litre ones on my Enduro, seem good so far, no issues but I haven't done many miles with them yet.

  4. Thanks Ed, that's helpful. I never had any probs with them on my s1000xr but ya never know how different bikes are going to react. My xr was factory lowered tho whereas my strada isn't (but I do have a lowered seat) so I'm actually starting to think the issue I might have is getting on the bike when it's fully loaded... o_O

  5. Yeah, I'm 6'5" and it's not exactly easy to get on with the panniers on. Fine if you stand on the foot peg of course but I'm just a little wary of over loading the sidestand.

  6. Okaaaaaaay then! I'm 5'5" so I may need to rethink this!

  7. You could strap a small ladder on?

  8. I’ve got 37l with 42l top box in black on my pikes peak and love them. I personally think the Ducati cases look awful. I’m 5’9” and still get on using the foot peg. No issues at all with the cases. Shame I won’t get to use them this year

  9. I guess at this point I'm only going to know if I give it a shot... Might have to give the footpeg trick a practice run though. In the meantime... (goes back to scouring the internet for a strap-on stepladder)

  10. If you were ok on an XR you’ll be fine

  11. Ahh it was a factory lowered XR which made a lot of difference.

  12. Multi can have a lowered seat, or start / end your ride in Urban mode and the suspension will drop a cm or so. I also found the Multi seat to be narrower and consequently a bit more forgiving, with the trade off being that the XR is a bit less top heavy.

  13. I do have a lowered seat, and I agree it's narrower. I usually ride with a sheepskin cover which makes it a bit taller. So I might junk that and maybe keep an eye on ebay for some second hand frames and give this a shot... Having first fitting stabilisers in case it all goes horribly wrong.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. You're a knowledgeable bunch ;)

  14. How much lower, just as a matter of interest?

  15. From memory the standard height was 840 and the lowered suspension version was 790. I think they offered a lowered seat option in between those two tho.

But if you're on the balls I'd your feet at 790, 5cm makes a world of difference when it comes to minimising horizontal parking incidents :D

  16. Do it, the trekkers work great on a Multi :)

  18. Also known as "the correct colour"... ;)

  19. Shame, you could have got a red one for the same price ...
