1200 Enduro Aux Lights - Non-ducati

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by MotoNik, Apr 2, 2020.

  1. I'm thinking of adding some auxiliary lights on my crash bars for a bit of additional visibility to other road-users. I seem to recall reading elsewhere that there's a little connector for powering satnavs that can be connected into - can anyone tell me if this would be adequate for connecting lights to? They can effectively be permanently on with the ignition is on. Otherwise it'll be a lighting circuit (relay and switch) from the battery.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. My sat nav is connected to that connector and is on all the time I have my Zumo on the bike.

I don't see any reason it can't power running lights instead. One caveat is I think the Zumo runs off +/- 5volts but I think there is a step down in the cable and the connector supplies 12v. Someone will confirm that I'm sure.

  3. I would always connect additional lights through a relay that gets it's on signal from the aux power point as mentioned. That way it actually only triggers the relay to switch on. it will then also switch off once the canbus powers off the aux supply after switching off ignition

  4. Thanks George, appreciate your help. I'll look for a similar kit here on eBay uk.

  6. Thank you - not sure my budget stretches to the Denali stuff, as lovely as it looks!

  7. MotoNik, re-reading your post I see you want visibility to others rather than a spotlight for you.
In that case you could do what I have done. Search ebay for inexpensive LED running lights. This is one as an example I quickly found: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminum-Alloy-Bicycle-Lamp-Led-Night-Riding-Equipment-Bike-Lamp-Outdoor-Bi-W9D8/174218873059?hash=item28904108e3:g:3REAAOSwmAhea3QAhttps:

These are better for motorcycles and there's a selection of others if you scroll down the page: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-60W-...507206?hash=item48e2c995c6:g:RD8AAOSwJTZdqXtf

The ones I have cost about £15 a pair and I bought four to have a back-up. I also improved their waterproofing with silicone grease on the lens thread and silicone sealant on wire entry points.
I mounted them beneath the beak. I first put a strip of aluminium inside for more rigidity. They are wired into the power outlet on the dashboard. You need a right angled mini-DIN plug. They come on and switch off with the ignition which makes everything easy, no need for wiring to the battery with relays. P1000799.JPG P1000800.JPG P1000803.JPG

  8. Thank you for the links, those looks really decent. I actually bought these...

The only issue I have currently is finding somewhere I like to mount them. I'll then look at getting a pre-made loom a bit like this one...

It's mainly finding the time at the moment, as I'm in the fortunate position of being super busy and still gainfully employed (which also means I can commute on my bike).
