V4 Upper Fairing Removal V4r/v4s/v4 2020 (help Please!)

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Pete T, Apr 4, 2020.

  1. Help please. Have removed the two screws from upper front, the two from inside the wheel well and the one from under the nose. The three velcro tabs on the tank are detached and have un-hooked from the stub that projects upwards from the frame. The only thing holding this section of fairing onto the bike is a fixing point immediately below my finger.

Can anybody tell me how to disconnect this point?

It looks like it might just pull straight out but I've tugged reasonably hard and it doesn't want to let go. Thought I'd ask the brains trust before I break something.

  2. There are also a couple of sneaky bastards on the leading edge (behind the forks) and above the front fender. I also remove the nose section before I remove the upper fairings. I can't remember if it's absolutely necessary to remove the nose section but it definitely makes it easier.

Without trying to sound a smug fekker I do so often I don't even think about it. But yeah, the first time is/was a pain.......

  3. And ther's also a screw anchor point behind the fairing just forward of the resevoir in your picture....

  4. Thanks Mary, yes got the two above the fender. The whole thing is now loose without having to remove the nose. Just that last one in front of the reservoir is my problem. Seems no way to get a tool in there so I'm assuming it's a post and grommet, simple pull free, but it seems very strong (IF that's what it is).

  5. Thanks AJL, but these instructions are for the 2018 and 2019 models. The 2020 with the gills has one specific attachment point on the upper side fairings that is different to the earlier models - and that is the one that is giving me a problem.

I see what you mean, though, pretty hard to follow. Slide 15 should show two screws being removed. Slide 23 should be immediately after slide 16. Troy Gleason's Utube on the GB Racing Covers is a better guide for fairing removal for the models that don't have shark gills.

  7. I'm having this same exact problem. How were you able to finally remove the fairing? I can't get that fixing point off

  8. I know it's intimidating but it is simply a matter of pulling directly away from the bike. There is a thick rubber grommet on the fairing that is plugged onto a large steel stud poking out at a right angle from the frame. It might slip off easier over time but initially, at least, mine has a very strong grip.

After removing all other attachment points I grabbed the fairing on either side of the grommet and pulled back while rocking from side to side. You'll feel it easing away hopefully before launching yourself across the room. And yes the fairing is quite strong.

  9. Ah OK thank you very much for the reply
