Not that I'm tight, but, I do tend to ask for discounts etc cause I like a deal Today is a perfect example ... Took my car in for it's first service, basically an oil change and check over. Main dealer price £239. All I said was "that seems expensive" , I then stood back and stayed quiet. Service guy stood and looked at me for about 30 seconds, looked awkward and then said "shall I look at the bill?" No more was said, and 5 mins later the bill is reduced to £149. Almost a 40% discount from a main dealer just because I dared to ask. Why don't more people ask for discounts ??? Wonder how many other customers have paid the full price ? So, who else asks for discounts .... Or, who just pays the price and never asks?
Yep. Watched a programme with Dom Littlewood I think, he said always say "what`s your best price" rather than "can you knock me a bit off." Something to do with not showing weakness. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Exactly, always ask, what's the worst then can say .... "Sorry, no discount" Also, I never suggest a price / discount when I first ask. Normally, stay quiet and they offer a better deal than you were going to ask for.
I ordered a MTS top box and pannier liners from my local dealer. When they quoted me the price I immediately said "Now how much to me?" I got almost £70 knocked off immediately.
Sometimes suggesting a cheeky but stupidly low price can work, or get the ball rolling at least. It has to be done right though, get it wrong and you might as well forget any discount, now, or in the future.
I would ask for a discount on a bag of crisps if I thought I could get them cheaper! Always always always, if it's a quid its better than nothing (taught to me by one of the best businessman I know)
I always ask for a discount if I think I can get away with it, hubby hates me doing it, but he does like the savings when I get the discount.
I always ask much to Mrs C's embarrasment. We are looking at kitchens tomorrow and I'll screw then right down on price and then ask for freebies
Heard about a "custom" kitchen sale guy that at the end of the deal, who always tried to include £200 ABFM .... told the customer it was "adhesive, bolts, & fixing materials". Reality was it was his £200 ... ABFM = A Bit For Me
Where I buy my bike kit, the guy always gives me 10%, so does another bike shop. So one day I tried on a set of Dainese leathers in a shop that had a lot of choice. They fitted perfectly and I really liked them, but I hadn't been planning on buying them. So I said to the guy would he knock 10% off? He said no. Would he at least discount them 5%? No. Fine, I said, I'll think about it. Went home, consulted the net and ended up buying them from the UK and saved several hundred quid. Shop's loss, not mine. I currently work in an Apple Mac store. We get a margin of about 8% on all Apple stuff. So when people ask for discount, the answer is no, but I don't mind them asking. But the margins on consumer electronics are generally rubbish.
8% ? That's rubbish. I imagined apple stuff had massive profits across them. Makes me even happier that I got 10% off my ipad3 and my mrs ipad2 a few weeks ago.
I got 12% off my iMac 21.5" mid 2010 model new from apple bullring (the joys of student discount)!
Apple chips into student discount so the shop doesn't suffer. For other people, if you want to give a discount, you're on your own. Discounting iPads 10%? We'd be paying customers to buy them! You'll have noticed that Apple's margin is about 40% (just read their SEC filings on their website). Could this be why they are now the most valuable company in the world? You can't say they spread the cake around. A big hunk for them, a small sliver for their suppliers and resellers.
What do you want an ipad for anyway ? Isnt a laptop, a desktop, a phone, enough ? Dont half these things all do the same anyway ?
Once you've had one you never go back. I got the original iPad when they first was released and never use anything else. Only time my laptop gets used is to Skype. And since having my new iPad with camera even that's less and less. It has so many uses. Yes I could cope without it but would never want to.
