Hi all, I’m looking for a Ducati timing belt tension tool; I’ve completed a belt change on my 748, however am not 100% confident with regards to my use of the tension techniques (ie 45 degree twist and 5mm deflection). If anyone has or knows of a tension tool for sale, or any further advise, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Use the frequency method with a smart phone app, or a microphone and a laptop!? Its been discussed in depth on here and other forums.
+1 on that. I recently did my 749s using my laptop with free software, and a £.99p microphone inc delivery. Very straightforward, and satisfying to know that you have tensioned the belts to the exact specifications required.
New, factory fresh belts,Ah sheer joy -frequency method,laptops,smartphones,microphones,apps etc for getting them spot on and....50 miles later they are no longer 'spot on' and getting slacker till the next service.But don't get paranoid eh.LOL
Well the OP is asking for a belt tension tool, so I assume he is looking for the same type as used on the SS...........which the fishing scales do work on....just don't get a bulky one, though. AL
If you are not confident doing a job like this or do not have the tools or the experience to "feel" the belt tension go to an expert, or se if there is a forum member close that does have the expertise. otherwise its not worth the risk.
I completely agree SPIKE, however I'd never discount the advice and knowledge I can get from this site. It's always worth a quick ask, especially considering how helpful and prompt the advice is. Thanks for your help guys, as ever, it is very much appreciated.
