Bike In The Conservatory

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by cookster, Apr 19, 2020.

  1. Hi everyone I'm thinking of putting one of my bikes in my conservatory, is this a good idea?? I know they get hot in summer and cold in winter, I've got blinds on the roof but not on the sides . Anyone else got one in there conservatory?? Won't be long and il have one in the front room too.:p

  2. I know plenty who have done it over the years. Biggest risk imho will be accelerated fading if in direct sunlight thru glass.

  5. I used to have a Z1000 in the conservatory. (I’ll find photos later) The heat in the summer popped the seals on the brakes and forks and ruined quite a few Karndean tiles

  8. ‘snot, for a conservatory to be an orangery, it has to have been on the original plan of the building.

  9. Unless it’s a Pinery.

  10. Only for modern houses built in the seventeenth century (Or later) as orangeries are a recent invention.

  11. Interesting fact; approximately 50% of bananas grown around the world can be traced back to the orangery built by Joseph Paxton at Chatsworth House. They repopulated vast plantations with the Dwarf Cavendish, after a disease wiped out the worlds harvest.
    Well I think it’s interesting.

  15. Just be careful with insurance, if it's insured as being in a brick built garage and anything happens keeping it in the conservatory . Insurance companies don't need much to wriggle out of something....

  16. Different thing all together.

As are sun rooms and garden rooms.

People have started calling conservatories orangeries because they think they’re posh :)
