As my SS restoration project nears completion small things which I was happy to live with before are now starting to bug me. The front discs are rather shabby, with paint flaking off and rust spots starting to come through. So, what's the best/easiest/cheapest way to restore the paintwork? I'm considering masking them off and using acid etch and a rattle can but not sure whether the paint will stay on there. Anyone gone down this route, if so what paint did you use and was it successful? The other option is powder coating. Or I could stop being a tight arse and lay out £400 for new ones, but that's not likely to happen. Help and suggestions welcome please.
I don't want fully floaters as I'm trying to keep the bike looking original. I'll drop you a pm. Are yours any better than this? I've cleaned mine up again and they look a lot better, but still not good enough.
I didn't start out being fussy. Initially I gave them a scrub up and they looked ok. Then I had the wheels and frame painted, then I sorted the bodywork, and painted the engine and oil cooler, and now the discs look crap. Each time I improve one bit, then the next part looks shoddy. I was happy with the footpegs and hangers until the bodywork was finished, and now I've just spent over 100 quid replacing bent and worn bits, then they're off to be anodized again. I wish I hadn't started.. Tis fun though.
yours aren't in too bad a condition, If your not happy, sell them and buy new original ones, simple. Not be shelling out £400.00 then ;-)
I did consider it, but second hand ones seem to go for about £100 so it'll still cost me £300 to change. It's got to be cheaper to fix these, but how?
Use gold caliper paint!! http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Produ...mpaign=Paint&gclid=CImwv-jPjrcCFYqV3god1noA2w there are cheaper options if you shop around, ebay, amazon, halfords
