This was in The Times today: And I thought that Europe -especially - was getting away from this "a good war sorts everything out!" thought process. Obviously not for some people......
Wouldn’t do half the little shites nicking scooters and breaking into cars and houses any harm. Wouldn’t of complained if I’d had to do it.
A few years ago, wikki states that, “Alongside Turkey, Germany remains the only major NATO country that sill requires its young men to serve in the military. Conscription also still exists in Austria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Greece and Norway. At 26 months, the longest required military service in Europe is on the island of Cyprus” I am probably of the first generation of British youth that didn’t have to report for National Service, although I had military training 1 day a week during term time as a teenager. What this dreadful virus has highlighted for me is that there are many people who understand and accept that they have a “civic responsibility”. Others however have clearly demonstrated that they do not but I suppose that is inevitable as society changes and the need for community is left behind by the need for self. Andy
