  7. We lent it to them for a little while, allowed them to spend on boats they will no longer need and we will buy them cheaply

  8. or they’ll repurpose them to ‘people smuggle’, just saying like.

  9. Agree about the kick but not the “arrest”. I couldn’t access the Apple link but the Independent doesn’t say arrested, simply that he refused to comply with a stop and search, which is different (although reasonable force can also be used to conduct a stop and search)

For the moment, the allegation that the boy elbowed the officer is probably best filed under “Standard Issue Excuse #17” next to others such as “he jumped the ticket barrier” or “I thought he was reaching for a weapon”.

There’s simply not enough information available from the edited clip (it jumps by approx 15 secs just before they get fighty) to say what happened. The issue on which the whole thing hinges is whether the officer was acting lawfully when he had hold of the boy, because if he wasn’t then he wasn’t “acting in the execution of his duty” and the boy was entitled to defend himself by struggling free, meaning that the punch or forearm to the head and the kick to the ribs(?) were assaults on him by the officer. If the officer was acting lawfully then the kick to the ribs looked a little borderline but wasn’t necessarily excessive force as the youth hadn’t been subdued and looked like he was starting to get up again.

  11. Nope. Read it again and you’ll see I don’t come to any conclusions. It’s funny how you didn’t level that criticism at anyone else who did though.

  12. How do you know the police didn’t edit the video before releasing it? You don’t, so it’s probably best not to jump to conclusions.

  13. Bitter and twisted jumping to a conclusion Opinion A

  14. Not bitterness at all. Simply based on experience. I could give you a much bigger list if you like.

  15. And shit throws both ways...plus we all have experiences not just you!

  16. I would've gone with,

"I had to hold him by the throat, cos it looked like he was swallowing drugs"
