  1. Hi,
I am refreshing my bike that has stood for a number of years now. Got it fired up but when I rev it in neutral the speedo goes nuts increasing with the revs.

Any ideas what I should be checking?

  2. Swarf on the rear wheel speed sensor

  3. Think someone on here had the same issue a couple of years back

  4. Tried cleaning that. Problem still there. Could it be a wiring issue?

  5. Disconnect the speed sensor and see if it stops. If you trace the sensor cable back you will find a connector. If it stops then problem is sensor related. If not, then update the thread.

  6. Think i found the problem. Disconnected sensor from the coupling, cleaned out contacts using brake cleaner. Seems ok now?
Another problem arises! When I put it in gear it cuts out. The only way to pull away is to give it plenty of revs. Any ideas? Tried cleaning side stand connector?

  7. Clutch switch?

  8. Think I've found the problem …. Squirted brake cleaner into the connection on the side stand its self. It will now go into gear without stalling. Will give it a run in the street tomorrow if everything is ok.

    Thanks again for the input

  10. The clutch switch won't stop the bike running but it will allow the starter to operate if the bike is in gear and the lever is held in. If it fails the starter will only operate with the bike in neutral.
