Has anyone sealed a 916/996 tank with something like por 15. My tank has some rough patches on the seams although it’s not leaking, yet it doesn’t feel good What did you use to remove the existing sealer Did you manage to seal the tank without damaging the paint I’m trying to way up wether to give it a go or just put the money towards a new used tank Thanks
Yes, plenty. I inadvertently stressed the rear seam on my 853 track tank which started to weep. POR15 sorted it and it’s been fuel tight for 5 or 6 years now. It’s horrendous stuff to use near fresh paintwork and you have to get creative to fabricate bungs to block holes but an easy to follow process that you MUST allocate plenty of time to. The individual steps are not something you can walk away from part way through. Andy
Thanks did you remove the existing sealer, did it have any. A bit of research seems to say the tank were sealed at the factory
As far as I’m aware the inside of the tank is painted. POR15 comes with 3 processes, the first cleans the tank, the second etches the surface and the third is the paint. I did nothing more than follow the instructions. I believe the reference to sealant is more aimed at someone who has previously used a proprietary sealant. If you believe the marketing, rival products make all sorts of claims about lumps of sealant losing adhesion. You should be good just to crack on. Andy
Having just arranged to send a parcel to Hungary, I understand your concerns but the stuff is Frost’s bread and butter so fingers crossed.
