Shimming Looks Like A Right Faff

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ck_uk, Feb 17, 2017.

  1. I'd be happy to run a shim exchange service here for members. I have already offered to do exchanges for shims earlier in this thread with my own kits which is quite limited.
If someone higher up wants to organise this and ask members with surplus shims to pool them to try and make a decent assortment.... I'll be happy to run the 8mm opener and closer shim exchange.....

  2. Why not just start a thread in the Technical Help section (unless it's just limited to SuperSports 74-07) and then ask a Mod to pin it at the top of the section, then it's always there. Anyone can then post with their requests or what they have available, which will pop the thread into the New Posts section each time, members can then PM each other for addresses and any other personal data.

    Just a thought.

  3. They def. used to have a shim set as I had it at one point. IIRC it was only for the 2v bikes (8mm valve stems) but stand to be corrected on that. I'll speak to tool hire and confirm details.

  4. Hey Rob, where was that from, the monster club?
It would be good if something can be set up on here as I would benefit all 8mm owner who do their own valves with closer shims costing the best part of £25 a pop.

  5. I've just started a thread in the Technical section as suggested by West Cork Paul about a possible shim exchange service on here...

  6. Ducati Owners Club (GB) tho' it's not currently listed in the tool section on their website as far as I can see. https://www.docgb.org/tool-hire Used to be on an exhange basis with a nominal fee - certainly way less than £25! Have to be a club member of course (which happens to cost exactly £25!) Will try and speak to current tool hire guy this evening and update.

  7. It’s 1 valve closer shim from Ducati is £25

  8. Have spoken to Graham Stoppani, DOC GB tool hire, who confirms that the club does indeed have a 2v shim set (not 4v, little demand apparently). Shims available on an exchange basis, postage costs only. Once you've sorted details via email / snail mail he sends out a small selection and expects the same number back. Easy peasy. Tells me he is going to revamp the tool hire page on the club website to reflect this info. Hope this helps.
