851 And 888 Forum Demise > Rebirth ? @mods

Discussion in '851 / 888' started by Jon Wright, May 9, 2020.

  1. I may well be going where angels fear to tread with this, but that has never stopped me before!

It seems that the old 851.888 forum is no more - It has been down for a good few weeks now. Perhaps the owners / mods are still trying to save it, but if not, I think it would be a real shame to lose all of the useful knowledge, expertise and insights that have been posted there over the years.
So, I wanted to wonder out loud, would it be possible to find an agreement for their archive to be incorporated into this section of this forum somehow?
I have no knowledge of how such things work, IP value, advertising, ownership, platform compatibility etc, but often, where there is a will there is a way!
The same thing happened successfully with a couple of Laverda sites with the same aim - to keep the legacy information available and allow the members of the old platform to join the new one and continue to share info. This section is not as busy as once it was, so potentially mutually beneficial, I would have thought.
    Thanks,
    Jon

  2. Although a lovely idea, I can think of one moderator on 851.888 (at least) who (I believe) would be dead set against such a merger. Without adding details, I would agree with him.

  3. Better to leave dead than resurrect all the great info contained there?

  7. What are you saying, that the triple 888/851 owners on here only add upto 5%.?

  8. No, I think that only about 5% of DF content is bikes. 851/888 was pretty focused.

    TBH... I kinda like that.

  9. I think you need a mix / blend balance or the forums go belly up in the end.

  12. I’d be happy to help them get their site back up and running if that would help?

  13. Thanks Rob,
Maybe someone seeing this thread with connections will see the value to take action, or alternatively make a comment about 851.888’s future plans.
Be a real shame to lose it.

  14. What little I know about the workings of my bike was found and discussed on that forum, would be a shame to see it gone, saying that, it is not uncommon for it to drop off every now and then for one reason or another, even for a period of time so hopefully it is getting sorted.

  17. Interesting to see how similar the Cagiva and Dunlop fonts are, though different in details, like the slope of the italic, the centre of the D and the asymmetry of the Dunlop U.

  18. I know there are a few guys who would like to continue with the 851 888 forum.
But they just can not get in touch with the current owner.

    Henk!!!
