Even though we have been granted 6 month extensions to our MOT's that ran out after 31st March, I always though it was important to support local business at the 1st possible opportunity and to get bikes MOT'd if possible, even if exempt. The Tuono is 3 years old next week, so with my local MOT guy being open today, I took it along. It passed as expected. Talking to the owner, he reckons his take is about 50% down, just because of MOT's even though he's been open. The Panigale is due in a couple of week, so I'll pop along with that at the weekend.
Agreed, I had an email from my local dealer laying out their plans to phase re-opening. I sent them a reply to say it was the best email I’ve had all week, and got a thank you.
I was told the other day by an MOT tester that the extension to the MOT doesn't 'roll on' the due date as this would mean potentially half the vehicles in the UK needing testing at the end of the 6 month period and all subsequent years too until new cars dilute the situation. He says if you have had a 6 month respite then your next MOT will be for 6 months only He hasn't been told this officially and I can't find anything on-line, but it kinda makes sense no?
Yup, makes absolutely sense. It’s a revenue driver and The country is gonna need all the money it can get once this shit storm has gone.
I buy all my trials bike stuff from a local business. I just pay whatever is on the label and I’m happy to do so because of the convenience and advice they give me. They are happy to help with any welding jobs and only charge by the time it takes them, no minimum. I’m sure they don’t make much money out of the bikes and accessories but they are proper enthusiasts. https://www.cjtennantengineeringltd.co.uk/
If true, another reason just to do them anyway. I would have thought that any MOT would be from 12 months from the date of issue though. Just say you haven't had a bike MOT'd because you aren't using it, nothing to do with Covid, but it just happens to fall into the criteria. You'd be a bit pissed off when you took your bike for an MOT in the future to get a 6 month one. The tester today told me that mine didn't show on the system as extended, but it wasn't due till the 30th and looking on the Gov website, it only flags up 7 days in advance.
The best my local can do for me is four weeks times for bits & pieces,as per conversation this morning with Pete.
