  1. No, I did consider that. I think it was just coincidental the injectors started squirting fuel after I connected that pipe (I’m not sure if it’s the breather or the drain, which had come off the plastic Y piece). I suspect a poor connection of some sort.

I’m also guessing the cutting out might actually be linked to the same problem ie fuel and not anything coil/plug wise.

I’ll pull the pump assembly, check it all over, and the injector feeds, replace the fuel filter (as I bet it’s the original from ore 2002:confused:) and see how that goes.

  2. Mind you, the airbox has been off at some stage as the crankcase breather hadn’t been reconnected (it is now) which explains the grungy mess all over the engine:(.

The upside of that however, is the engine appears to be completely free of any corrosion or flaking paint:upyeah: thanks to its light covering of oil. Every cloud and all:)

  3. Far to oily to use in the shower, I think SWMBO would disapprove.

  4. Er yeah they screw to the inside of the air box..

  5. Did you enjoy the 50 miles and how did it ride/run?

  6. You need to remove the “sponge bob” filter and go for the bmc or standard solution. You don’t want to get your precious on fire during a back fire, which happens sometimes with these filters when they are submerged with oil and fuel.....

  7. Until the misfire started all was fine, it was just a local bimble (and not the best of roads around here), I didn't want to go too far just in case. Also, I have to admit I didn't really open her up, I don't think I got above 3rd gear , and didn't get above 9000 rpm:(; reason being because as soon as I did that the horizon was upon me and I had to slow down a bit.

What I have found out is I'm going to have to play around with the footpegs/controls a bit as the gear lever is too close to the footpeg for my size 10.5s and whilst changing down is easy it's bloody difficult for me to hook my toe under the lever for up-changes. Anyway, that's easy enough to sort out and if I really can't get on with the DP ones on there I've always got a blingy set of ultra adjustable Chinese ones to fall back on :D

  8. Thanks for that advice Nick:upyeah:, looks like you caught that one just in time.

  9. I've just noticed Nick, your top yoke is polished and has no casting seam, is that standard on the S? Mine is too.

  10. The foam inside the internal pads in the fairings is shot, in as much as you push your finger in and it doesn't spring back, it is 18+ years old after all. Does anyone know how to remove, without damaging the plastic lug, the old quick fasteners pushed onto the plastic lugs that hold the internal panel in place?
    TIA

  12. There should be ample adjustment for yer plates as the toe peg and footrest are both on cams iirc. Or, just throw the bling on. We all know you love a bit of gold. ;)
    Glad the ride was ok.
If it’s too much bike for your roads I will take it off your hands for a suitably discounted price. What are friends for after all?

  16. as exi says, snip the fasters from the outside at the shortest points gently in two opposite places and they should come off hopefully without cracking those plastic mounts

  17. West Cork Paul, whatever you do, do not fit the gold gayboy (wack it up dry) rearsets. Now be a good boy and go and get some D.P ones. By the way what part of west Cork are you from, I have some very fond memories of West Cork.

  18. The bike has DP rear sets on at the moment but I have bigger feet than the previous owner so they need a bit of fiddling around with. Anyway, don't you like my blingy rear sets :D?

I'm actually from Birmingham, via London and Hong Kong but been living here for 8 years this year:upyeah:. Schull, far far far West Cork.
