Looking For A Double Bike Trailer To Hire

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Bob T, May 29, 2020.

  1. Need to move two bikes, 939 Supersport and Monster 831, to southern France. Would like to trailer them there so I am looking for the loan or wanting to hire a decent trailer to get them down there.
Looking at a few weeks in June.
I will probably buy a trailer when I am down there eventually which will be used to help out visiting bikers should they need help.

  2. IMO you would be better with a van.

  3. Thanks for that, but we have looked at that option. Roughly £800 return with a van that we would have to bring back after a week and then drive back down in the car, or £900 to buy a trailer here and we could stay there for 3 or 4 weeks.

  4. It’d help if we knew where you were in the UK.
In my opinion if you need a two bike trailer you're better off with a three bike trailer, then if you're using it to transport one bike at sometime in the future they’re more stable.
    HTH.

  5. Sorry, I am in Dorset. I just need to get the bikes down there, 2 or three bike trailer to borrow or rent. It looks like I might shell out and buy a new Lider trailer over here in the UK if there are no other options.

  7. I have a 2 / 3 bike trailer just what you need I've been thinking of selling. Just called Motolug and there is a 5 week wait on a new one from them though.

  8. Did look at them, but they are collapsible and I thought that it is a feature that I have no need for. I assume that is the case for yours?

  9. Looking at something to keep now and needs 13" wheels. If I splash out and spend just over £800 then I will will get something pretty sturdy and keep the trailer in the Dordogne should any visiting bikers need rescue. I have plenty of land to store it there.
Probably not worth splashing out and renting one in that case.

  10. I sold a bike trailer last year, I hated using it. I bought instead a cheap old Renault trafic lwb with a high roof. Admittedly it means that there is an extra vehicle to tax, service and insure but I feel much more comfortable moving bikes in it and the bike being out of sight means less likely to be stolen. Also it is great for when we want to chuck bicycles in or take the kayaks to the river etc not to mention the number of times family members have borrowed it to move furniture and so on. We have a really nice lwb Citroen Relay at work that will be sold later this year. I`m tempted to buy that from the company as it would do all the above but being a little bigger it would make a good camper conversion too.

  11. No way would I want a cheap old van that I would never be able to get registered in France anyway, but thanks for the suggestion.
As for converting it into a camper van, I have tried a camper van and found it so slow and restrictive that I have become very anti them.

  12. Try your local indespension or Ifor Williams trailer outlets,as some have hire units available.

  13. Been in contact with them as they supply Lider trailers, my preferred choice. They were going to get back to me with a delivery forecast. This is a buying option.

  14. I had a Brenderup MC2 with 13" wheels, no bearing play or any other issues after 11k miles. Towed quite often at 110km/h for hours on Autobahn without any issues. Funny enough on one occasion, I started noticing some mild vibration through the car chassis..after a quick glance at the speedo I noticed I was at 160km/h, was considering for couple of seconds why is the car vibrating, only to remember I am towing a trailer with 2 enduro bikes on.:)
