Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by knightrider, May 29, 2020.

  1. Anybody know what the cloth bit that sit on top of the air box does ??

only put everything back together after fitting a new air filter and left that piece off ... I didn’t swear ... much

  2. Dunno but I assumed it was something to do with noise damping?

  3. I wear earplugs so it can stop off then till the next time I have to take it to bits .... that’s if my OCD can handle it and I’m not up at 5am tomorrow

  4. Was it silver on one side?? Possibly heat shield between top of engine and petrol tank ??

  5. Think you’ll find it’s a heat shield as I’m sure the ecu sits underneath. Changed my air filter a while back and I’m sure ecu sits under that pad.

  6. Fire protection. I wouldn't ride my bike without it being in place!

  7. Thanks mate and other comments, looks like i'll be up at 5am again to fit it before riding it

  8. Are you sure? I thought it was just a noise damper. I have recently done exactly what knightrider has done! I removed all the fairing panels etc and as I thought it may get soiled or cat sitting on it, put "nappy" on top of workbench stuff and......it is still there. It just seems like cotton to me? Anyway, seems like more intake honk as well so be interesting to refit and roadtest but I can't be arsed!

  9. The manual calls it the "sound deadening cover"!

  12. Okay, actually I lit it on fire and then threw the ashes in the trash....

  13. more fool you... you’ll regret it.

  15. Not if it explodes...in the event of such misfortune I imagine the last thing to go through one’s mind would be quite literally “bollox” rather than regret.

  16. And you wouldn't regret that?

  17. Wouldn’t have time (as my testicles passed through my frontal lobe)

  18. You must have quite the riding style for that kind of outcome...
