Carbon Mudguard On 998 Brake Hose Clip Or Not

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by hp82, May 30, 2020.

  1. hi all

I’ve recently had a new front carbon mudguard delivered from Ducati parts online for my 998 bip. It’s by speed carbon and a v nice piece of kit.

Just one question do any of you attach the brake hose clip with a plastic rivet that exists on the oem mudguard? The carbon piece doesn’t come with the clip and I don’t see that it’s really necessary but just wondered if they exist on other carbon mudguards or if people just don’t bother.

There is the rubber sheath on the brake hose anyway which seems to sit in the indent on the guard nicely.

    Cheers

  4. What and lose all that weight you've saved by getting a carbon fibre mudguard ;)

  5. its to prevent your brake line being worn away by contact with the tire.. may be an MOT failure if noticed under inspection

Thanks I’ve sent them a mail. I didn’t realise they still produced for the older models I thought it was all new old stock. I can’t seem to download the brochure from their website so if anyone has it I’d be v grateful.

  7. Yup
think should be ok. Also great thing about Hong Kong is no MOT! However if you get stopped by the police for anything and you have anything after market on chances are you will have to go to the police station with your bike fully back to standard.

  8. The idea of the indent is that you drill out the pop rivet on your old oe mudguard and re rivet the clip to your new carbon one?

  9. The carbon ones are much thinner then the std plastic ones and if using the std brake line setup, the h line should sit well above the mudguard. If using the old rubber hoses, I’d probably fit the clip. Otherwise, it’s for nothing.

  10. sorry, but for the risk of loosing your front brakes if the line is damaged i would recommend just buying the small parts from the OEM and fitting it correctly, for piece of mind at least

  11. The original Ducati performance part has it as standard, you could swap the original clip over to the speed Carbon one easy.
