  7. Showing your age there bud, 79 would have been riding a cycle and at that time had no time for Rock music preferring Punk.

  10. In 1979, I was being entertained by the RAAF at Woomera in South Australia whilst working with the ESA monitoring unusual sunspot activity. Mind you, I had already seen Led Zeppelin on the college tour a number of years previously. At that time I had a Norton 650ss back in the UK. The drive through the Gibber Plain to the work place (corrugated iron huts) was about 40 miles of single tarmac road, far too dangerous for motorcycles. Adult red Kangaroos could weight upwards of 700kg, not good to run in to. Andy

  11. In 1979 I was riding a Raleigh Commando* and I’ve been riding commando ever since.

I do have a Led Zeppelin “lame to fame“ though. When I was in a band in the 90s we found ourselves setting up in a rehearsal studio in Kings Cross as Led Zeppelin, who had been practising for their ‘95 reunion, were packing up. Unfortunately were slightly delayed starting as the in house sound engineer Jeff “The Fog” Hickman wasn’t too well. Our drummer, who also worked at the studio, was literally crying and moaning with laughter but eventually after about 10 minutes he managed to compose himself enough to tell us that Jeff had electrocuted himself after Jimmy Page had asked him to fix an amp, he’d got all star struck and muddled up, which for some unknown reason had culminated in him sticking his index finger into the fuse hole on the back of it while it was still plugged in.

    * Lesser known cousin to the Chopper and Grifter, and kind of like a hybrid of the two.

  13. I saw them Knebworth too. At the time I had a 750 Norton Commando Interstate for road and a 850 Norton in a Metise frame for race.

I couldn't really afford to ride, race, drink, shag so life was always full of opportunity cost.

  14. 79? Yeah still on pushbikes then. Music wise I’d bought albums by Ian Dury, Tom Robinson, Rush, Stranglers to name a few. Great days. Just getting into girlies too....

  16. I saw them in the early seventies, really showing my age.
That's one of the few benefits of getting old, we saw a lot of the best bands, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Talking Heads, James Brown, Elton John, Teardrop Explodes, Tears for Fears, U2, Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

  17. Ok I admit in 1979 I was riding my Honda 250 Wetdream. Until the camchain snapped, which was cool as I then switched to a CBX.

  18. My younger sister went to live in Madrid with parents when they moved back. After graduating from college there, being bilingual, she got a holiday job as a simultaneous translator/interpreter. Much of the work she was given was business meetings and trade fairs. When I got out there that summer she told me she'd been given a job to collect a couple of blokes from the airport take them to their hotel and basically hang around with them for a couple of days while they were in town for a concert. I asked who they were, she said she didn't know, but she'd got on really well with them and they'd had a right laugh together, she thought they were called something like 'Jimmy Plant and Robert Page'!! Kids!
