  2. Thanks for all the useful info. I had another try with my DeLonghi and now the froother doesn't work, as well as the main filter coffee maker. There is at least two things to fix now and I just can't be bothered, So, I'm gonna chuck it.

The attraction of the DeLonghi machines were that they were the only machine that I could find to make filter coffee and could do Latte, or espresso. But they are crap.

I am gonna stick with grinding my beans in a separate grinder, stick with the cheapo filter coffee maker because i is fine (the fact that it switches off and I have to microwave is no bother. As I like my coffee quite milky, that cools it right down anyway, which means that a blast in the microwave is no bad thing.

So from all of the links that I've been given, I will pick a machine that doesn't need to be able to make a carafe of filter coffee.

    Thanks.

  3. I've got s Dualit machine that was about £100 7 years ago, does the job for me - I buy ground coffee from supermarkets so am obviously a heathen but its consistent, has a frother which i never use either. Good luck :upyeah:

  4. Thanks. I will investigate.

  5. Gonna get his. It looks the business and does everything that I want apart from make filter coffee - but I'll just stick with my cheapo Cookworks one.

  6. Honestly, you'd be better off getting a Dolce Gusto and save £100.

  7. The machines might be cheaper but,as far as I can make out, all they do is force hot water through pods! I don't want to get into pods and all of the unnecessary foil and packaging. I wanna stay using coffee beans - as in what actually grows on a coffee plant rather than small amounts of coffee encapsulated in plastic, foil, or card.

  8. What do you think is in pods? Artificial coffee? It's not, just commodity coffee. If you don't want the waste, get a Nespresso and buy a reusable capsule that you can fill with your own ground beans. For the milk, pour hot milk into a cafetiere and pump it up and down until it's frothy - there's no mystery in the milk and coffee drinks (except filter and pourovers) start off as espresso. All you'll get from the Dualit is an over-priced piece of equipment that doesn't make very good ground coffee because it's trying to be too many things and is a brand name.

  9. I thought that Nespresso did reusable capsules. I will investigate.

  10. Out local Italian restaurant has just reopened, operating as a takeaway
On their menu is home roasted coffee.
Going to order a bag along with a our takeaway for tomorrow’s meal.

  11. Well, if they do then they are keeping it a close secret. From looking around the web, you wouldn't think that coffee could of been around before the invention of plastic. According to most machine makers, you can't have coffee without buying a lot of plastic. I'm giving up with machines. They seem expensive whilst not even the manufacturer has any expectation of them lasting.

  12. SEALPOD Reusable Nespresso Capsule, Refillable Pod Compatible with Nespresso Original Line Machine, Durable Stainless Steel, Come with Fresh Cover - Starter Pack [1 POD, 100 LIDs] https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZFLF8GG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yKO2EbDEP3FHC

    Are these not suitable ?

I didn’t realise you could get them so have ordered similar for the one we have.

other than that, I use a stove top one, like this,

Bialetti Moka Express Aluminium Stovetop Coffee Maker (3 Cup) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0000AN3QI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FMO2EbMZH3R4Q

Not sure how it compares to expensive machines though.

  13. Aeropress & a good bean grinder! One moving part and costs a fraction of what you're looking at Perry. Also portable, so you can take it on your future tours...
Why anyone would want a Nespresso is beyond me.

  14. Came across this on Amazon (although no longer looking at coffee machines). It's less than a hundred and I don't care how long it lasts as long as it does a year. I dunno what kind of been grinder that I've got, but given it is DeLonghi, then it is probably crap - in line with all of their stuff that I've bought. One of the Amazon reviews did say that the bean grinder was very important, as well. So, I will investigate.

  15. A burr grinder:
    upload_2020-6-5_22-19-0.png

  16. You can't get a good burr grinder for under £300 unless you go second hand. The grinder is the most important bit of the whole process.

Would second the above recommendation of an Aeropress. It's not proper espresso, but it's a very, very good thing (and is about £25).

  17. Just get any decently reviewed coffee maker that uses an insulated carafe...
So the coffee is only brewed... not cooked later on a hot plate. It will reheat awesome in the microwave later.
'Get a grinder. Burr is better, but to start you can use the other.
    Buy ANY whole Colombian beans...
Make it stronger than you would.
If you dont take it black. Upgrade to half and half or full cream.
Soon the good coffee you had last week will be crap.

Really, the first move no matter what is to grind your own beans no matter if you do a pour over, a press, anything.

The coffee will be very very good. Soon you will be an addict...

  18. I buy beans from Monsoon Estates and grind them using the bean grinder pictured above. I use the ground coffee straight away in a cheapo CookWorks filter coffee maker. It switches off after about 15 minutes and the coffee goes cold. I like my coffee quite milky and so I add milk to the cold coffee in a mug and then microwave for about 1.5 minutes. That is fine but I can only make filter coffee. My second D'Longhi machine bust a few months ago. That was my second and I am not buying a third! Getting the machine above will mean that I can make Latte, or espresso again.

  19. No-one seems to be recommending picking up a Grande Three Shot Blonde Expresso with a Splash of Almond, Cinnamon Syrup, and Whipped Cream from their local Starbucks? After all, they’re the purveyors of the Finest Coffee in Seattle!
