Helmet Size.

  1. Fnarrrr Fnarrrr.
Right now that's over with. Serious question. Looking at AGV Pista RR and wonder what size to go for. Local store haven't got one in and my Shoei is a small; however just measured the bonce and I'm 57.5cm round the forehead so either an S or SM according to AGV site.
Anyone gone from another make in a small to a small or medium small with AGV!
    Ta.

  2. I went from an Arai RX7 GP to the AGV Pista RR. I was large with the Arai and I’m same with the AGV. The AGV’s a great lid btw. It’s not as plush as the Arai but since I only use it for track days, comfort isn’t up there. It feels really light compared to the Arai. It’s got better ventilation and looks cooler :p

  3. IME, if you are a Shoei head, the AGV is in unlikely to fit well. I tried about 9 different helmets looking to replace my X-Spirit III which lifts at speed on the V4 and the AGV didn’t fit me. Andy

  4. As a fellow Shoei head, did you find another brand that fit as well? Just curious as my Neotec is 4 years old and will be replaced in the next 12 months.

  5. The one helmet I have yet to try is the Suomi but the Neotec II is an excellent helmet and I think the latest Neotec II v2 is better still. I need a helmet for track days but everyday wear for me is the Neotec II. Andy

  6. I had an old AGV, sub £400 full face which was really comfy. Sadly can’t remember the size.
Both my Shoei & C3Pro are a small (54/55cm) so was surprised to measure the bonce and get 57.5cm!!

  7. Mary; do you find the low chin on the Pista interferes with shoulder armour on jacket/race suit? I know it’s not exactly common to do a “life saver” check over the shoulder on track.
But I’ll mainly be using it for on road riding.

  8. Funnily enough I wear a Neotec 2 in work and agree it’s a real improvement over the first gen.
Guess I’ll try a few more brands to see if anything else suits.

  9. I am a Large in Shoei (with a tiny bit of room to spare) Neotec 1, and I also have a AGV GT Veloce in large which is significantly more fitted.

Neither are uncomfortable at either end of the spectrum...the AGV has a lot less miles in it in fairness.

  10. I went from an Arai Quantum L to an AGV Corsa R ML. My head is dead on 58cm and the Arai got a bit loose over the last 4 years. I always found the Arai a bit short in the chin bar and my nose touched touched the breath deflector. The AGV is tight to get on but super comfy on a track day. Very good visibility and the quality of the visor is outstanding. Alos I have found it very good to wear with straight arm glasses. I think the AGV sizing of MS and ML is a great move and I get no lift at 130mph + on my S1000R which I had to use as Snetterton last week when the MAP sensor packed up on the 1199.

  11. No, don’t think so. Life savers are required when joining the track tbf. The Pista works fine tucked in too. I’d say it’s definitely a track biased lid. Designed by none other than VR I believe.
I also noticed immediately that it’s more aerodynamic than the the Arai. Much less drag on the old swede at high speeds :):upyeah:

  12. Whatever you get, you must try it on first, it's the only way to be sure you have the right size.
Even if you go to a dealer then order on the net. Try it first!

  13. I was going to say the same thing. It's not just a head size thing necessarily, it's a head shape thing too.
I bought a Shark a long time ago after trying about 15 lids in in the shop, the lad who was working there at Ghost bikes must have been well fed up but never showed it.
But after that I assumed any Shark would be ok, so got my next Shark lid in the post. How wrong was I!
After that I tracked down my head type for the Shark helmet that fitted me by using web bike world as they tend to give an idea of the head shape type in their reviews.
I then looked for a new helmet that was the same type, I actually ended up in HJC and I've stayed with them for a few helmets now as they seem to be ok for my intermediate oval head shape.
