Just bought an 8000ml bike, it revs freely in neutral, but doesn't want to rev past 5000rpm on road, I'm losing a serious amount of power Any obvious things spring to mind? It's on sport high 150. It pulls like I expected up to this rev range and then wont go past 5k, even dropping a gear or 2 Hoping it's as simple as a rev limiter setting
As noobie said.... Get a torch and look down the pipe or better still remove the shield behind the offside foot peg and you'll see the flapper valve. When you turn on the ignition you should see it cycle open then close.... I think yours is stuck shut.
Had a quick look at exhaust flap. It was stuck, I've soaked it un wd40 and it moves, cable operates when powered up, so its operational (so to speak) So it was stuck with cable fully retracted, which way is open? Can I just lock wire it in open position, or fully remove flap? I done this with my benelli trek 1130, but this Ducati is a bit more technically advanced and I dont want to cause any problems with electronics. Thanks for quick responses, and hopefully get it freed off and unleash the real power. I'll keep you posted.

A 2013 software doesn't alert a jammed open on the display... it might show when the Ducati machine is connected during a service. Older bikes had a jammed open valve as a fault.
Big thumbs up for the instant correct diagnosis. Wasnt so easy to do due to corroded fasteners and bolts etc, but all fixed. I removed flap completely and spindle was very stiff, so I bored out the top plate on the cam to allow cable to still operate and return as if it was still working, but it doesn't try to turn spindle. I'm now grinning like a Cheshire cat, that was the power I was looking for! I'm gonna have some fun on this !!
