Hi all, So I’m trying to replace the rear disc on my 17’ multi, Ive got the wheel, sprocket & carries off, calliper hanging, but I can’t seem to get the spindle out of the hub. what am I missing?
The large circlip my friend, a fairly hefty pair of circlip pliers required. Link will give an overview, also opportunity to do a hub clean! https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/d...BS/REAR-WHEEL-HUB--DISC--CHAIN/413/1219/0/413
So, I went for the cave man approach, block of wood and a lump hammer, the spindle is full of rust and crud, surely that should be well sealed?!
I’ve had it from new, it’s done 6k, it’s seen very little water in its life! this is disgusting, my vfr400 with 30,000 miles on the clock was cleaner
Pics of my 2010 hub at 43k after three years since last hub service, including one Scotland tour of 3 days rain!
The fronts are warped, and I can’t be bothered with getting the dealership to replace the crap discs with more crap discs, so I’ve got a set of Brembo oro’s, and whilst I’m doing the fronts, I might as well do the rear too, glad I did now
Best way chief, when I got mine the front discs were dished due to sticky caliper pistons, stripped and cleaned the lot replaced discs and pads with brembo never had any issues since, that was three years ago
Quick trip to machine mart to get rid of some more money! hopfillynive got everything I should need. The spindle has cleaned up fairly well too.
Scotchbright pad, wire brush and a tanker full of WD40 and clutch cleaner. So the hub is now removed and it is pretty poor inside, but whilst it was in the bike, I thought I’d take one of the bearings out... BAD IDEA! It’s an open ball bearing, as I prized it out, the bearing face hit me in the chest and send the loose bearing scattering all over the garage, so I’m now 2 ball bearings short, and a replacement costs £100
Aw bugger mate, when I did mine I checked the hub bearing before hub removal couldn't perceive any play so left them alone albeit some packing of that nice expensive red grease.
