California Superbike School Is Back In The Uk

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Keti, Jun 23, 2020.

Did all four levels of CSS many years ago and learned an awful lot about how to control a bike properly, good technique, where my limits are (and that of my bike too!) and lots of confidence on track. Assuming the skills and approach are the same as the old CSS (looks like that's the case as it's all based on Keith code's "a twist of the wrist"), I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Can be a bit in the expensive side (again, if the fees are the same as previously) but I certainly thought it was worth the money at the time. Hopefully they'll be releasing dates soon.

  2. Looks like they have got into bed with MSV so it will be interesting to see how they manage exhaust noise levels. Good luck to them, just hope they stick to rider tuition. Andy

  3. Anyone done this and the Ron haslam version know how they compare? I was looking at the haslam one but it didn't look like you got much track time at all.

  4. CSS and RH are completely different approaches to coaching, one, CSS, is all about adopting a 'system' its breaks down your riding and gives you the tools to be faster / safer / more confident, but its quite rigid and takes effort.

They have however coached riders such as Luthi and Camier to championship wins.

RH is more like trackday tuition, basic body positioning, being dragged around, less structured feedback etc.

Depends what you want, neither will turn you into Vale but they will be of benefit.

  5. I did all four levels of CSS and found it very useful, if a tad expensive.
I did it to become a better track day rider. It did help, but I have learnt so much more about track riding from an ex-CSS instructor, that is way beyond level 4.
I still use him as he has a great knowledge of all tracks like Aragon, Jerez, Mugello, Portimao, Almeria etc..
Amazingly he can shred seconds off my lap-times via a phone call.
    Worth every penny.

  6. @andyb I think he means 'Mr Brake Later / Gas Earlier' .. ;-)

Just kidding @Paul55 I k ow exactly who you speak of and he is great .. :) I have used him as well ....

  7. I'd heard some of the instructors had purchased it. Interesting move jumping in bed with MSV, that could work out really nicely.

  8. Yep, a couple of the stalwarts that have been there a long time, they are going back to basics, it was all getting a bit out of hand and came back and bit them, some good IP in there and some good people, i wish them well.

  9. Are they not all....?
    Brake, throttle to apex.
    Rather than;
    Brake, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrm apex, brmmmmmmmm.

  10. Erm, no ....

  11. ok

  12. If it really was that simple we'd all be in the fast group and making our livings racing fast bikes and shagging hot women ...

  13. Not quite. That big thing on our shoulders is the biggest inhibitor, and biggest problem :upyeah:

Be good to see them back, and how they look at restructuring the learning.

  14. Sounds like my life...:upyeah:
I've not attended any of the courses, however, the reason for the question was I have a number of mates that have and having discussed the courses with them they tell me (at least with the instructors they had) this was what was taught.
I have also had some introduction on euro TDs, where the instructors have told me they spend much of their time attempting to undo what CSS have taught.

  15. Chip?
    Parrot?

  16. Both. Level 1 you start with a small chip and by level 4 you have racing god status one :upyeah:

And a parrot to keep you on message ;)

  17. I remember a certain forum contributor on a Ducati Silverstone day, must be 2018, getting a talking to by a CSS instructor in the pit lane. Had to be the pit lane because the instructor couldn’t keep up on track :joy: Andy

  18. That last bit is an interesting point. I think they could do with an update/making themselves more relevant

  19. That won't be happening, using the CSS moniker means they have to adhere to the standards / processes set out by Keith back in the US, has always been that way.
