Is This S4r Exhaust System Titanium Or Stainless?

  1. Test with steel, stainless steel and titanium

  2. If you have an old unwanted hard disk drive around , take it apart
..... they have powerful neodymium magnets inside

  3. Yep .....these are strong magnets .....handy to keep if you're scrapping old pcs

  4. No probs, if you need to borrow it further down the line give me a shout, we're no too far apart.
Just out of interest I googled "titanium exhaust for S4 monster" and it only came up with aftermarket brands like Zard, Akropovic, Arrow etc. Pretty sure that Ducati never offered titanium option.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

  5. That’s a big stock header and cat with the aftermarket stubby Termi. They will be stainless steel, all be it a lowish grade hence the sh*tty brown colour

  6. Latest developments are that in addition to multiple repetitious rambling messages setting out his (woefully incorrect) understanding of contract law, complete with laughably ludicrous pseudo-legalese and latin*, he yesterday repeated his previous low ball offer and suggested I should take it as he claimed to have a letter on headed paper from a Ducati dealership which confirms the pipes and silencer are Titanium. Which is very odd indeed, as I had spoken to a Ducati dealer only an hour beforehand who is sending me an email tomorrow which will say exactly the opposite.

Strangely, the seller chose to only tell me about this "letter" rather than sending it to me and is now coming up with all sorts of excuses why he is unwilling to do so. That refusal is despite me saying that if I am happy with the provenance and contents of the (phantom) letter I will not ask him for a single penny by way of a part-refund and I will even apologise to him for my error.

I hope he doesn't play poker as his bluff was so transparent as to be almost touching in its naiveté and left him absolutely nowhere to go once I called him on it. :yum

    * And yes, he does know what I do for a living because after I bought the exhaust but before I received it he was continually badgering me to buy his overpriced radiator, to such an extent that in the end I had to tell him my pursestrings are remaining closed for the moment until the courts reopen and cash flow improves.

  8. All my own handiwork I’m afraid. I had the carbs off my Bandit for some reason and when I came to put everything back together a bolt was missing. I searched for it obsessively for hours before realising it must have fallen into the engine. And it had. :astonished:

  9. it happened to sombodys RF900 i know. shortly after getting a service. he heard a rattle then a thud. he is mechanical himself and noticed a brandnew mixture screw in one of his carbs. he pulled the engine and removed the head to find a mixture screw embeded in the head. doh!.
to the local shops credit they didnt dick around. took full responcibilty (how could they not) and suplied a new engine.
ie, that shit happens to the best of us.

  10. Always a good Idea to block orifices with paper towels when working on an engine, I say paper towel rather than rags as it does less damage than rag when you forget you’ve put it there and start the engine, ask me how I know!

  18. Stainless steel 304/316 are poor electrical conductors. Both very close in reading. Ti is lower than either, simplest NDT is meter against a known stainless. I can't remember the exact numbers but as a comparison a very low reading would suggest Ti. Ti is also 5 times harder than stainless in the solution annealed state. 40 % lighter than stainless. Commonest Ti is grade 5. 6AL/4V. 304L commonest for pipe work. 316 has additional molybdenum and higher tensile values used in non critical bolting applications. If required a NAMAS approved test house can check in minutes. NAMAS test certs stand up in court. Pure Titanium is rarely used it has very poor mechanical properties. No idea if any of that helps, the ramblings of an old man:)

  19. I forgot to update this thread (if anyone was even interested, lol).

The guy was clearly not the full ticket, was a habitual liar and I strongly suspect he had some sort of personality disorder. It got to the stage where he was saying "This is my LAST message to you..." only then to follow it up with 5 more on the same day. He also claimed he had a letter from Ducati confirming the (obviously SS) OE pipes were Ti and when I asked him to send me a copy he became aggressive and refused. I obtained a letter from Snells (big thanks to Dave) stating that the pipes were definitely OE SS items and not Titanium but when I sent it to the seller, he claimed I had either forged it or bribed them!

I started an eBay/Paypal claim but in the end I withdrew it because by this time I was sick of dealing with such a dishonest, nasty piece of work and fighting with him over what was only a couple of hundred quid (which was clearly the price of this cheap bastard's honour). Given that he had already intimated that he would tell eBay he received the goods back in a damaged state, I could see this dispute going on for weeks. So, in the end, I basically bought a second hand end can (which I like and is in v good nick) for the price of a new one and also ended up with a spare set of OE SS downpipes, which I am rehoming with @bradders in the near future. Naturally I left extremely negative feedback for the guy.

I won't put his eBay ID up here but be very very very careful buying any S4R/RS parts or red bodywork from a seller located in Windsor whose eBay ID begins with the letter "d".

  20. Zhed... Open the case with eBay & send the required email. Then ask eBay to intervene in the three weeks time as set by them. Post the pipes FOC with their label. Get full refund! Pull yourself together, your girlfriend would enjoy £200 being spent on her, your some could do all kinds of things with £200 - damn your dog would be delirious with £200 worth of dog treats!
