Helite, Turtle 2, External Air Bag Vest

  1. Well, all this talk about air bag suits and vests, has spurred me on to look at a road focussed vest to supplement my track focussed vest.
I'm not in the market for new leathers because I like the two Dainese jackets I already have and neither of them have sufficient room to accommodate and under jacket air bag vest so I'm obviously limited to what is out there.
Although to date I have not had to call on the benefits my current Helite GP track vest has to offer, the supplier is local and I qualify for a discount so I bought an updated street version, the Turtle 2. It has a horseshoe shaped, 25 litre capacity bag, protecting the chest, collarbone, neck/head and a has a full height back protector. Actually quite light for what it is but of very sturdy construction. Better suited to the warmer weather than the GP vest as it allows a better through flow of air to the jacket. Not cheap but guaranteed for 4 years, serviceable, repairable if damage is not too extensive, easy to re-set if it goes off and the replacement gas canisters are £20. Andy

  2. While it looks like an excellent airbag, I'm curious why you didn't pick Helite's new E-Turtle airbag vest? Without a tether, see look how cool you'd look ;)

  3. I’m lazy, I’m absent minded and I’m disorganised. I understand and appreciate the advances in technology but if a piece of kit requires a battery to be changed or charged, don’t expect me to be on top of it. Two miles into a 150 mile day out, my Sena starts telling my ‘low battery’. I always dress appropriately to ride a motorbike, so the slow speed off survivability isn’t something that concerns me, it’s the impact at speed that throws you into the air that I would like help surviving and the standard Turtle 2 offers just that. I’m 66 years old and ride a Multistrada, what could be cooler than that ? :joy: Andy
