Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland - 30th June To 6th July 2020

Discussion in 'Touring' started by El Toro, Jun 26, 2020.

  1. I know this is short notice but below is a post from Tony Barker of EuroBikeTrans Ltd that he's just posted on Facebook. I thought it may be of interest to a few people on here :upyeah:

"Cabin fever....its driving me crazy, if I dont get out on a bike tour soon I'm going to have to kill someone. Anyway, decided to go to Ireland next week for a few days, sailing from Liverpool into Belfast arriving on 01 July and back out of Dublin to Holyhead on 06 July, following Wild Atlantic Way down the west coast. We have just one Ducati on the trip and the poor lad needs some red company, thus the reason for this post. Its not a charging trip for Eurobiketrans, everyone pays their own way, hotels have been identified on route, but there could also be some wild camping involved. If you want to come buy your own ferry ticket, Liverpool/Belfast on Stena's 22.30H sailing next Tue 30th, and meet up at 19.30H in car park at Burtonwood west services on the 30th, then we'll make it up from there...."

  2. Returning to Hollyhead will rely on the Welsh government relaxing the current travel restrictions on the 6th (their current timetable subject to the correct conditions) but given the very recent spike in Corona virus infections in Anglesey, I can't see that happening. Andy

  3. Nice idea but .....errr, at present anyone arriving in Ireland from the UK (except Northern Ireland) has to quarantine for 14 days.

He's being sneaky and using the loophole whereby those entering the Republic from the North don't have to quarantine, although that is only supposed to apply to those that are ordinarily resident in the North. UK bikes, UK plates (not NI plates) run a slight risk of being pulled IMO.

Restrictions may or may not be relaxed on 9th July, the ROI Govt is presently comprising what they are calling the Green List, a list of countries which will be exempt from the 14 day quarantine rules - if compiled today the UK (NI excepted) would not be on the list due to the high level of cases still prevalent within the population.

That was this morning's news anyway

  4. You will definitely get pulled in ROI with uk mainland plates on. My wife took the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin yesterday, no welsh issues but remember no food is allowed to be taken in. And yes it’s a 14 day quarantine but I told my wife to give a mobile number if they call her to check where she is.
