1199 Rear Heat Issues 1199s

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Chris Collins, Jul 1, 2020.

  1. Hi all
Been trying to sort the rear heat issues so my attempt is in progress I bought some exhaust wrap, gold heat reflective tape, done under the seat and repainted the heat shield will apply some gold tape to the inside when dried, what I have noticed is my shield has been off before because its single skin ie bits missing, obviously this didn't help let you know if things improve as this hit weather makes the ride dreadful see pics. ;)

  2. Didn't I read somewhere that if you wrap the exhaust on these they are more likely to crack the manifold as the heat can't escape??

  3. Snap:upyeah:
3 layers on and it’s the thicker comfort seat. Still not brilliant though; heat wise.

  4. The heat you feel in the seat isn't through radiation from the exhaust. It's conduction via the sub-frame being bolted to the rear cylinder. Once the Pani goes through a few 100+c heat cycles when getting stuck in traffic the whole engine & subframe become heat soaked. I think wrapping up and insulating the engine parts will add to the heat problems. Not the ones you feel but definitely the ones the bike goes through.

I've insulated my seat and looking for ways to evacuate heat from around the engine - Removing the rear cylinder covers will allow a small amount of air to draw heat away from the cylinder head. I think the Pani was launched without a rear exhaust cover, I bet that helped remove heat through radiation as the surface area was exposed to airflow.

  5. I had a Buell Ulysses and boy, did that have a heat problem on a hot day in town! Buell fitted a thermostatically operated fan which helped a little. On the 2nd. Gen Ulysses, they fitted some subtle ducting and this eased the problem a little. Anyway..... where I was going was to wonder if there was anywhere that a small fan, such as those used on computer CPUs could be fitted, maybe out of site under the seat, to draw some hot air away?

  6. Doesn’t matter if it fixes the heat issue, looks like NASA, that’s good enough.

  7. Cheers for your thoughts lads that's all you can do but to be fair this gold film is great took her out earlier got it upto 92° in traffic and a noticible difference I did the seat, wrapped the exhaust which is better for fuel burn through the system I've read, and did the gold under the rear exhaust shield see pic... I get what you say about the sub I'll have to come up with something to sort that if I can :)

  8. This gold defineltly works too reflect heat good choice mate :upyeah:

  9. I did think of that and maybe an option but what I've done so far is much better :upyeah:

  10. Thanks mate good point but the heat I was getting from the exhaust before and after the jobs I've done has definatley made an improvement... I wonder if I could machine off 15/20mm from the sub and have some carbon spacers made up to sit between the sub and cylinder head? :upyeah:

  11. Hi mate I can't find that statement anywhere but a lot of Ducati owners use the wrap and like it even Bayliss :upyeah:

  12. ok mate, it might have even been on the ti systems I cant really remember

  13. OK mate but still good to know thanks for the info I'm posting a thread on the throttle play have a read if any help :upyeah:

  14. A few headers; o/e systems, have cracked on the Pani’s. I think due to vibration & poor manufacturing.

  15. Ive already done my throttle bud

  16. Nice one mate

  18. Nice job, Chris. A little love can make these great machines even better! What gold film did you use? Looks good thru the slots in the exhaust cover, much better than my 1299 looks. Also, cool tail tidy, who makes that? Dave

  19. Alan Millyard motorcycling genius may have the ultimate heat shield material here, watch from 4 minutes 45 seconds to see what he did on his Viper engined bike

  20. The blowtorch near his finger! Crazy
