1100 Are Öhlins On The Scrambler High On A Pecking Order.

Discussion in 'Scrambler' started by spanish, Jul 2, 2020.

  1. Very close to pressing the button on buying a Scrambler 1110 - to share a garage with my Multi. Few low mileage used bikes around so may have to bite the bullet on a new one. Wondered how important Öhlins suspension on the Scrambler is?
Chatting yesterday to some guys who were setting up my Öhlins on the Multi and asked them the question. Little doubt in their mind that the Ohlins bike is the one to have and said they have many people coming in with the Marxocchi /Kayaba suspension for change to Ohlins!
    Be interested in any comments.

  2. Ohlins suspension is great of course but I read an article on the Monster 1100s yesterday that said that the Ohlins was overly firm and that owners having dialled it down and ended up with very similar suspension to the showa equipped model, they questioned whether the extra cost of the Ohlins was justified?, blingy though!

  3. valving should be better, but still may need things like a spring change if you are very light/very heavy. May be better to have other aftermarket products but ohlins look great on a ducat ;)

  4. A few cartridge kits out there for the Marzocchi forks and a few aftermarket rear shocks like Nitron that don’t cost as much as Ohlins that are not far off as good and loads better than the Kayaba. Looks like you have about £1500 quid to play with between both the current new models so the Ohlins Pro might actually be worth it. Andy

  5. I do, and it has ohlins.

I never mess about with it, I just get on and ride it :)

  6. I set my Standard 1100 up and it rides as well as my 800 scrambler did with Ohlins on rear and Andreani cartridges on front

I rode both - and could not feel a massive difference between them...

I would have had the Sport - with Ohlins - but did not want the Matt Black Paint...

But do not regret having the Standard...

    I am a heavy guy....

Does not ride as well as the DVT Multi.... but great fun and no issues with Standard Suspension.

  7. Had a test ride on 2019 standard 1100 and for me it handled really well. Quite a revelation. So was surprised that the suspension guys were so heavily on the side of the Ohlins bike. At the end of day a Scrambler is never going to be a Panigale in disguise! Suppose see what is available and what price.

  8. What year you looking for and in what colour?

  9. Probably end up getting the 2020 model and liked the look of the 1100 Pro Sport.
Also have looked for “the sensible option” re cost-a 2019 sport -but few and far between.

  10. If you get one I'd definitely recommend putting a Termi full system on it. It will transform the bike.

  11. Shouldn’t tempt me! Full Termi on my Pikes Peak that I love. Might have to speak to Martin again in Manchester (you introduced him to me in 2018 re my Multi) though few deals presently as a new model.

  12. I remember :upyeah:

The full system not only transforms the noise and power but the handling too. It somehow made mine more sprightly. I love it :)

  13. Tried to get an idea of costing for a full system but seems there is a bit if confusion out there re whether the system is “racing” or “homologous for road” and the positioning of the end can or end cans. Can you enlighten please. It was a very straightforward request and decision for the Multi.

  14. Fairly straight forward, look on the configurator, https://configurator.scramblerducati.com/bikes/gb/en/scrambler/ and it will show you the options. Homologated street legal is only an end can, not for road use (but everyone does) has additional pipework to delete the CAT and the end can gets baffles. Andy

  15. Mine's a full racing system.....................or at least that's what the dash says on start up

  16. Thanks. Know what is what now. Racing full version needed- probably for me with baffles!

  17. Hi all. I picked up a sport pro 2 weeks ago and the dealer threw in the type approved termi slip on. I had heard the full race system is very loud and I do have early starts so was worried if it would upset neighbours. The type approved termi is still loud. Subjectively it seems twice as loud as the monster 797 on its stock pipe that I've come from.

The ohlins is lovely. Haven't messed about with the settings yet. But with and without the pillion it seems stiffer yet more supple. So the forks don't compress as much as the monster did in pressing down on the handlebars with the brakes on for example, but on rougher roads around my way it's definitely a smoother ride.

Most importantly the wife loves going on as a pillion much more than the monster. So it's a win win!

  18. Well paid a deposit yesterday on the Sport Pro so all to look forward to.
Wonder about the Termi Slip Ons ( Fussy did well getting them ‘thrown in’ as 1k in value) as probably mainly a cosmetic improvement. Perhaps wait and fit a full system but would want reassurance that not really any louder than stock system with baffles. El Torro can you comment? Certainly the full system on my Multi, loudness wise, is absolutely acceptable and should have done it ages ago!

  19. Spanish. You'll love it!
Did you go with Manchester in the end?
The termi slip on was included after some hard negotiating between Manchester, Coventry and Peterborough.

Oddly the type approved termi is not on the configurator for the sport pro. It's only available on the non pro variants. May be something to do with the pros being euro5 Vs the non pros euro4?

I've heard the standard 1100 (in euro 4 guise anyway) is a fair bit louder than the 800s. But I haven't heard a stock pro with the stacked pipes in the flesh. With the slip on termi there's a nice burble, over run pops are less frequent than my monster but much louder when they so occur. I love them! But for me it was purely the aesthetics. The supertrapp style look for the rear end just does it for me.
