Hi can anyone please send me photos of the yellow timing marks on the cam wheels and the cam shaft covers for the front and rear cylinders my marks have come off when stripping the engine and I want to set it up manually not using the cam tools. Many thanks
Hi Nick, you'd probably be better off posting the same post but either in the tech section or the multistrada section as they tend to be busier parts of the forum
There aren't any yellow timing marks unless they have been put there by a previous owner / mechanic. Line up the dot on the bottom belt pulley with the line on the clutch side engine case. This is the timing position. At that point the legs of the T shape in each cam should be pointing directly away from the cylinder. Make your own marks with the engine in this position if you need to. This is the best picture I can find showing the camshaft positions:
As I recall the "Tool" for setting up the cams fits into the slot of the "T" on the end of the cams and holds them in line while the belts are fitted. Shouldn't be too hard to make one?
Thank you for everyone's input looks like I'm on the ball park with the timing hopefully with the new main bearing the motor will be back to normal.
Thanks to everyone ducati rebuild complete and closing shims fitted . New main bearings 2 secondhand cylinders and pistons 5 closing shims gaskets and oil, took forever but bike now runs like a dream with just the usual ducati engine noises and not a big rumble. 600 miles done /fingers crossed
