I notice a strange sound coming from the engine when warm after belt and oil change, so subsequently the belt tensioners were replaced as the bearing were beginning to show signs of wear, and the belt tension was reduced. However the noise still persist when the bike has warmed up after a few miles. Link to video with sound, the clutch plates were removed to reduce some of the clatter..... Any help suggestions greatly appreciated, plan to drain the oil next to check for any metallic debris... Only done 12000 miles and had regular oil changes..
Slacken the belts a little and see if it goes! My Evo had the same noise when warm - belts too tight!
yes, agree, it does sound "belty" and needs investigating although sometimes new harmonics can persist after a belt change, had this several times and everything ok after checking meticulously. Re-checking tensioning goes without saying (slightly controversial so will avoid) but apart from this, two things come to mind: - unless you have replaced all tensioners, then study the ones you didn't change more than anything. Also after letting idle and blip until warm with covers off, turn engine off and (carefully) check and compare how hot all tensioner bearings are and ditto belts re: temperature and appearance - look to see if back of belts look unusual or part number writing changed/erased already.
Thanks I will have another look at the belts, both the horizontal and vertical tensioner were changed. The oil was clean & the mesh oil screen was clear .
so that's 6 bearings changed? idler bearing, tensioner bearing, I group them together for ease of typing these days.
