I had a 1972 Daytona yellow complete with stripes and rostyle wheels.....if only I knew then what I know now!!
Believe it or not, if the chassis numbers still there and log book is present it still be worth a good few thousand pounds!
My mate back in the early 90s used to have an obsession with MK1 escorts and RS2000’s and had a yard full of them. Paid a few hundred quid each for them at the time. He tinkered a bit with them but most of them just sat there rusting away for the following 20 odd years. We used to take the piss, but he’s laughing now. Restorers and collectors are fighting over them. A couple of years ago he sold a Mexico that the scrap yard would have pulled a face at for nearly £20k and has regular good draws for stuff with nettles growing out of them.
It’s a bit like VW campers, I remember when you could pick up a grotty 21 window samba for reasonable money, now you need to remortgage your house if you can find one, even 70’s bay windows are £15-20k, and let’s face it they have to be a camper because it’s an overnight trip to get anywhere in one!
Mexico engines were 1598 as std (a 1600) dont know why you would update the v5 to say 1650 even if it was rebored or over bored?
