How To Be An Idiot (warning)

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Advikaz, Jul 10, 2020.

  1. Never done a track day ever but that is a grade A idiot her daughter had the good sense to stay tight to the side of the track and the clown stops beside her to have a chat, common sense says its pure stupidity did she not see all the other bikes still moving past her at a greater speed than her ?

  2. Yeah, I agree with others, knock it off 25-50% but stay out the way and return to pits, I've never been told you can't overtake tbf but definitely been told that blasting round for one last 'hot one' will get someone hurt and get you sent home

  3. looking at the video he is doing 98-99mph on the point of impact, that's broken back and neck territory and really nasty. the person cruising on the left should have had a hand up clear as day, but actually she isn't the issue for me it's the guy who slows to have a chat with the other person, because all of a sudden you haven't got to slip past one bike that's a metre wide, but you have a 3 mtr road block, not a lot of real estate left to play with then. Still... apex speed of 70mph on a cool down lap is still pushing on, especially if it's an experienced track rider, they WILL have seen this and heard of it happening before so I think there's some blame on all parts.

  4. I keep going 99% till about 1 corner before the pits. It's not a race over, wave to the fans, carry a flag lap.

  5. Seriously, since fucking when do you not overtake on the final lap?!?!?!?!??!?!

Sighting laps, yes. Yellows, yes. Reds, yes.

  6. Just popped in from my workshop and watched this...
Following the vid' wondering what stupidity I would witness and found myself shouting WHAT!!!!
Christ you'd be safer on the road here in Cornwall early in the morning*.
The woman might well be an ex racer, but that hasn't spared her from being a halfwit and after she still can't see that she did anything wrong?
    It beggars belief.

*...and I can tell a few stories about that inc' currant (at the time) BSB riders, step forward Benji Straw.

  7. It seems we all do it differently and that means it needs addressing. I'm with Cream Revenge in that I keep going until the last corner.

If I remember correctly though Focussed events used to tell you to roll off after the chequered flag. (Long time since I did a trackday with them).

  8. I'm at Mallory tomorrow.

    I'm 50% scared and 50% fuming!

  10. Generally I would knock it down from 100% (whatever that may be on any given day) to say 70-80%.

Rolling off is a big no no and I've often heard it get mentioned in briefings.

A lot of lads run 100% all the way back to the pits.

Rolling off is very very dangerous. It looks as if the rider in this instance basically jumped on the brakes to roll alongside her daughter. We all make mistakes... unfortunately what was an innocent act has caused someone to get a broken pelvis.

I think there does need to be a general standard set by all TD organisers. I.E. keeping to the same rules on this as it just confuses things.

  11. His speedo is overeading. He’s on a gixer I think and he’s geared it down.

  12. I’m going to email MSV and ask for more clarity in the briefing.

Reading all of the comments on the trackday addicts thread the majority think there’s no big slowdown on the ‘in’ lap but there’s still a substantial number that think there is.

It seems MSV don’t make it clear, No Limits say don’t slow down, and Focused events say slow down and no overtaking.

At the moment everyone is using the MSV online briefing so it’s up to them to remove any doubt over this

  13. The rider in front didn't ease off, he/she slowed fairly violently and completely unpredictably, having been moving fairly rapidly until exactly that point. If it is that lady, she shows no remorse in her Facebook post, and the injuries to the other rider aren't even mentioned, just that it spoiled her day a bit. She was more worried about the few extra quid she had to pay for a battery, than being involved in a collision with a fellow rider who suffered potentially life changing injuries. Some people are quite staggering

  15. No fast overtaking....I have to say that the lady has had a brain fart, especially if she cant see that she was in the wrong.
At donington I would be doing my normal speed up to the chicane and then gradually knock it off ready for the pits.
She should be banned for life.
And she was doing a bit of dodgy riding at almeria earlier in the year.

  16. No limits
