Running An Exhaust With No Wadding.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Nostromo, Jun 6, 2020.

  1. I’m watching an exhaust on eBay that I want for my blade, but the seller has removed all wadding( apparently it was not load enough and gives a deeper tone), what are the implications of running a end can without the wadding present? I’m considering this exhaust as it’s half the price of others available.

    cheers

  2. You could always reinstate the wadding if the volume is too much.

  3. The outside shell of the exhaust might get overly hot

  4. Just an update, fitted the exhaust and it’s as loud as my leovince with the baffle out, I seem to get a weird harmonic sound when holding the throttle slightly and holdin(30mph) I’ve ordered a baffle and will try it and see if it goes away, if not I may re pack it.

  5. A lack of wadding will affect the back pressure. Not sure how important that is today with modern exhausts but ee, when I were a young whippersnapper, you needed back pressure to stop the incoming fuel/air mix being pulled into the exhaust during the overlap of the inlet and exhaust valves. 7. Is it a Taylor? They don't have a great reputation... they look alright but seem on par with Mivv for quality.

  8. Yes, I got it relatively cheap so not too fussed. I love the look but yes the quality is not the best, I have to drill the hole for the baffle myself, and I think it will need a lashing of black ht paint aswell, it’s tucked quite nicely under the bike so you can only really see the body from a couple of angles. I will be holding onto my Leo vince though just in case.

  9. Must admit, I do like an 08-11 Fireblade and yours looks nice. Can't see fork tops / dash / headlights so yours might be a 12-16 but still I like the shape of those. Had one and it was a friendly enough thing, just drank loads of oil.

  11. Just an update, been riding with the baffle fitted and is fine, it is only a dinky thing but tones it down abit, I think at some point I will pack it again and ht paint it. 7D2038D7-2559-4AF4-8E45-83DC450EAB59.jpeg

  12. You will be fussed when you ride it and realise it's lost nearly 20hp and runs like crap. Fast bikes ran one on their long term fireblade and took it off and replaced with an arrow because they dyno'd and it had lost I think 18hp, and the arrow was plus 3-4 from a standard bike. This is why they don't have a good reputation

  13. Hi Phil
I read about this, not too fussed at the moment as the bike is my daily, when it goes on track it will get a full system.:upyeah:

  14. Damn. Fancying another ‘blade now...

  15. Just as an observation i recently removed the wadding from the Micron end can on my old 88 Gixxer, apart from the improved sound :D it seems to run a bit sweeter than it did before, mind you it might be something to do with me changing the HT leads and fitting iridium plugs...but deffo no loss of power and the can doesnt seem to be getting any hotter.
