Giving The Gift Of Motorcycling

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Zhed46, Jul 11, 2020.

  1. The youngest Zhedlet turns 18 this time next week and I got him this MT125 (2016). Advertised for £2,850 but I got it for £2,400 with a paddock stand thrown in as the ABS light was on. I think it’s probably just a loose or dry connection as I had a fiddle with the sensors and got the light to go out and the ABS working again, but then it recurred.

I made him spend a year on a twist and go step thru so he could concentrate on developing his road sense and whatnot without having to worry about gears and clutch or toppling over and so he’s absolutely over the Moon to now be on a “proper” bike. We then had a lovely, albeit slow, ride back to Herts together through the Cambridgeshire lanes.

  5. Well, I’m taking him for his first biker cafe brekkie tomorrow and we’re going to the Silver Ball rather than the Bikeshed, so there’s hope ;)

Just kidding. I love the Bikeshed. It’s been ages since I’ve been to the Silver Ball though, as I stopped going there about 15 years ago after the miserable old git who ran it charged me £14 for a breakfast on the basis that as I’d asked for my egg to be scrambled it was no longer a set breakfast (£4.50) but was scrambled egg on toast, plus separate side orders of bacon, sausage, tomatoes, hash brown and fried bread with a mug of tea.

  12. Think I’d be the same, not sure I’d ever go back though to be honest.

Good luck to your lad for his riding years ahead.

My lads wants a Vespa for when he’s on L’s at 16 then he want a Aprilia sx when he turns 17.

  14. I think 15 years is long enough to hold a grudge. Forgive and forget and all that, eh.... like how I didn’t rise to Chiz’s little dig :yum
