1260 Passenger Seat & Grab Handles

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Franksie, Jul 11, 2020.

  1. I recently changed from a 1200 DVT to a 1260.

The difference in engine characteristics is like chalk and cheese and never fails to put a smile on my face, however the wife is having an issue, we do a fair few miles a year in Europe and we have noticed that the rear grab handles have been reconfigured

The 1200 DVT grab handles are flatter by the side of the seat whilst the 1260 the grab handles (top box fitted) are raised higher and inwards, today she complained that her sides are painfully digging into her causing a bit of discomfort, Now before I go any further I have to point out she is a size 10 and 9 st so not a case of a huge arse in a tiny seat or covid lockdown bum (not that im brave enought to even suggest that!!!) so question is whats the solution???? Thinking a Tourtech whoppy cushion to add comfort and raise the seating postion, (change the wife,- expense option and dont want to really), anyone else found this, any suggestions (sensible ones :) to what we could try as we have a trip coming up

  2. Can't she have her own bike?

  3.
  4. Does she tend to sit back against the top case? Maybe she's planting her butt to far back on the seat and needs to shift forward a little?

  5. It does look like the handles are sent quite far back so Bumpkin could be right? Another option might be to tape some sort of padding to the grab handles? Something like pipe insulation, not pretty but might do for touring?

  6. I don't have an good suggestions but I'm following with interest as my better half and I are planning a road trip to Spain in a couple of months. We haven't done any big miles on my 1260S yet so I don't know if longer rides will give her any problems. Keep us posted!

  7. Ordered a tourtech whoopee cushion which A will give her a bit more comfort but also raise her up an inch or so which should help, pisses me off that that make changes like this on each model, never had a problem with the 1200 despite doing 17K in 2 years, this one highlighted the problem after one days riding Grrrr, be interested to see how your wife gets on Octoeron

  8. I've got both panniers and a top box for touring, then whip them off for normal riding.
Not pretty with the top box on but very safe and comfortable for the passenger.
The added advantage is somewhere to store the helmets when you arrive, and carry various bits.
When we tour we have a pannier each and all the other crap, wet suits, security chain, spare kit etc all go in the top box.
Sometimes we strap a wet bag on top for extra storage, it works for us.

  9. Hi Mike

We do exactly the same thing:) This is the old 1200, haven't done any trips on the 1260 as our planed trip to Cadiz got Covid cancelled :(

  10. My other half has the Touratech DP pillion seat and an Airhawk pillion and she's good all day. This is on a 1200S but I think that the seats are the same.

Airhawk is packed away but gives another cm or two of lift, and allows a bit of wiggle too. You need to just fill it with enough air that her bum doesn't touch the seat but not aim for "cushioning" as such, or it'll feel floaty.

    Good luck!

  11. I never said she was my wife. ;) I did ask her and she says it's been ok so far, apart from when I accelerate hard and it pulls her arms out their sockets. :D We're off down to the Cotswolds this weekend so we'll see how she gets on.

  12. Another option would be:
